Tower of Terror Tour

I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture --a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees --very gradually --I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever.
---Poe, Tell Tale Heart

Tower of Terror Tour

for release 10-09-06
Washington D.C.

As I write, I am watching the fourth concert in G-dub's Tower of Terror Tour. He played Salt Lake City for the tough audience at the American Legion and then a couple of gigs in Washington for handpicked crowds and now he's in Atlanta.

There have been many exciting concert tours in the history of show business and politics. There was Truman's Whistle Stop Tour. And who could forget Madonna's Blonde Ambition Tour or Michael Jackson's Thriller Tour? This one reminds me more of Alice Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare Tour.

This is the best Chicken Little act that I've ever seen. G-dub is taking a two-pronged approach. On one hand he is telling you that, "the sky is falling, the sky is falling, the terrorists are everywhere." And in the next breath he is saying that he has prevented the sky from falling because the sky is still there and we haven't had any major terror attacks since 9-11. Brilliant logic.

All in all it was a great concert. G-dub did all of his old hits like "We Are Safer," and the ever rousing "Fight Them Over There (so you don't have to fight them here)"

Then he showed his versatility by doing his famous rap song, "I"m Gon' Busta Cap On You, Bin Laden." and his punk rendition of "Dirty Muslim Fascists" had them going wild in the mosh pit. He even did his new country-rock sensation, "I'm The Marlboro Man, But I Don't Smoke."

I know you've heard these tunes over and over, but G-dub manages to keep them fresh, almost as if he were reading them from the script for the very first time.

In his Washington D.C. concert on the day before his Atlanta gig, G-dub demonstrated his immense wisdom and benevolence by closing down the CIA torture chambers abroad and shipping the prisoners to the relative paradise of Gitmo. How quaint. What took him so long? I guess he was waiting for the bruises to fade.

The Tower of Terror Tour will culminate in a televised concert from the White House on Sept. 11. America will have already been treated to a week of replays of the Trade Towers falling with all of their breathtaking, awesome majesty skirted in cinders and ash. And the historically challenged ABC movie that is causing all of the stir in the news even before it is broadcast, will be playing. Instead of 'Path to Sept. 11', perhaps the miniseries should be called, 'Blame Game' or '9-11, Who Gets the Rap?'

The Poet's Eye is waiting to see just how much mileage that this government can get from the 9-11 disaster. Will it be like the Eagles or the Monkees or the Stones, with endless farewell and comeback tours? September 11 is already a de facto national holiday. Why not make it official? At least then I could take the day off.

On the road again
Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again
On the road again
Goin' places that I've never been
Seein' things that I may never see again,
And I can't wait to get on the road again.

It's best to "fight them over there" ( with our surrogates doing the bombing) so that these dangerous terrorists can be subdued . . .

Ummmm . . .well, with a little "collateral damage" to the truth, as you so adroitly point out.

Here's some more "collateral damage" . . .

Please feel free to delete this image if it offends you or the site, Doreen and LR.

Well crafted column, LR, with delicious irony for the murder-makers and the phrase-makers.

Isn't it all just another "Rock 'n Roll" ? Or was that "Shock 'n Awe?"

For anyone seeking an informed version of recent events in the Middle East, I strongly recommend "The New Middle East", p. 83 of THE NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS, Sept. 21st issue.

What happens when the next 9/11esque event takes place what then or is it all a part of life itself???? There's enough imagery memory to last a lifetime just like the ones before and after it.

that one was worth a stand up gig

irreverence for the current regime and its
suck-off lackeys

no i don't find the photo offensive
the 5 year old boy dead under the rubble
the 5 year old girl dead in a field
they need to be seen
and yet you've heard the implausible
rightwingers saying these photos are fakes

so the intransigence is awful
why poignant satire is healthy
anti-dote for absurdity
keeping us a little bit sane

the fucking daily show ripped you off, my friend.

last nite, they did a report with a backdrop of a calm and serene nitetime white house, with the reporter explaining that bush is saying:

our country is safer!

then, cut to white house with flames overhead, sky burning, falling, mass mayhem and:

but our country isnt safe.

we're safe. bush has made us safe. only not really. we're still not safe.

what this means, of course, is that if you go to a bob bowman concert instead of gwb concert, the terrorists will have won and we will all die in flames and fear.

bush's approach is also like a diet ad.

buy our product it will make you skinny like these people. but not really. these people are not typical. you will get thin. except, not really.

millions of people buy diet products every day.

and millions of people are buying bush's lies every day.

the solution? simple:

we need more concert t-shirts than they have. thats it, plain and simple.
and knowing i'm so eager to fight cant make letting me in any easier.
