Thanksgiving Table

Post by Lightning Rod » November 25th, 2008, 4:46 pm

Thanksgiving Table

Gathered around because it's Thursday I guess
the food is lavish and the china is fine
the forks are properly arrayed, the guests are seated
we give thanks

Uncle Bill is political, an opinion on every topic
Spinster cousin Jane is religious, historically myopic
Sister Sue brings the new love of her life
and everyone has to pretend that the romance will last
more than fifteen minutes
Someone is always a vegetarian

The conversation is scintillating, especially the chapter
about recent ailments and operations
Grandma is nodding off in her cranberry sauce
sweet dreams

time for football

Your last line was different the first time I read this. It was a football game.... but it was written different.

I like the poem a lot.

But I liked the way the line was before you edited it better.

Sorry I can't remember how you phrased it before the edit.

I have had thanksgivings like that,
nice description

Doreen
I think the last line was shorter
something like
"time for football"
nothing about solitude.

Yes! That's it!

I like that much better. "Time for football"

Or maybe the point is getting sick and tired of all the people and wanting the solitude?

I am doing my best to behave my self and not ramble all over Clay's poem

That bit about grandma in the cranberry sauce
I could get crazy with that

But I will post my own thanksgiving poem

Funny poem I think clay, but I got a sick sense of humor.

I used to love being on the road during the holidays in sweet anonymous solitude. Especially Christmas.

I hate the predictable predestined,
yet it seems I'm predestined to live there,
you know, in the predictable predestined.
I love this. Been there a few times.
It's just one meal together after all.

Am I mumbling again?
Aw give me a sparklin' cider,
and turkey... wait, no.. some tofurkey..
