Re: I D 4

Wow, even the car? Going for the complete clean break, I'm guessing..

"grouper sandwich with a side of black beans and plantains.." is poetry in itself.
Always wanted to check out Key West some day..

Re: Dirty harry

Well he had all the answers, and the right face of grizzled desert-baked self-determined American invincibility didn't hurt either, and he had a quick (enough) gun and an infallible sense of justice, so what was not to like?

Re: Back in My Road Days

Thanks Cec. Appreciate the observations and comments. The sheer distance-- hundreds/thousands of miles-- from my "Dark City" to the desert meant I had to submit to some degree of "motion mania" in order to get there and back in whatever limited "free time" I could scrape together. So I had to "make ...

Re: Who Agreed to a Five Day Work Week?

I know that the enlightened ones among us harbor no regrets-- regrets are useless negative energy. True enough. But this will end up being one of my biggest regrets-- all that time I spent sitting in a friggin office.

40 hours might have been a "good deal" way back when, but we still got boned..

Re: John Wayne once argued with Clint Eastwood

The "winning of the West," and then onto the rest of the WORLD (still in progress). Lotta skeletons in those closets. Eastwood & Morrison. Two iconic, immense talents, especially Eastwood. Simply no choice but to respect and marvel at their towering achievements in their chosen arts. Obviously they ...

Who Agreed to a Five Day Work Week?

Whoever agreed to a five day work week
should be fired right now, posthumously,
because that would never fly today
if we could just get a vote.

Amazing what time we cede.
Go out, conquer this, conquer that.
Such aggression would never fly now
if we could just get a vote.

John Wayne once argued with Clint Eastwood

Eastwood made High Plains Drifter.
John Wayne complained because
it was too negative, and you can't
paint the West so bad just three
years past bombing Cambodia.
It didnt seem to matter where
bombs fell in those times.
The West would be won.

Re: Down the Rabbit Hole

That's basically it. In a "psychological" sense. As to the bolts and nuts (no pun intended) of how "extremism" grows, to me it would be something more along the line of "hyperactive hypo -reality"-- grasping onto isolated shreds of the Information Explosion, based on latent or preconceived notions s...

Re: "They Hate Our Freedom"

Thanks saw. Well, THAT was a little sloppy.. Maybe something more like.. They hate our freedom ! rang loudly after the attacks, again and again, like a surgical implant. Like a shrill drill bored deep into my skull, it all seemed so true in horrific days of hell, but truth finally died on the operat...

Re: Restaurant Scene---a narrative poem

Read this again. A lot to take in-- so much "ground" covered, and hardly a word spoken (maybe none; it could ALL be interior, or through the eyes). In the end, it all means business. No business except BUSINESS in this benighted land..

"They Hate Our Freedom"

I kept hearing "they hate our freedom" after the nine eleven attacks, and it was so true on the News of the Moment. After that it all seemed like some kind of big hoax, by the Government or by The Media, I can't decide which is which these days and which is more vain. The land is getting prepped for...

Re: a stupid poem about me

In times like that I try to think: at least it was the journey, all aimless and perfect ... (And no, that doesn't help much, sometimes.) Or: "it could be worse, I could be a household name." (That one usually makes me feel better right away.)

I'm really liking that Yogi-ism, btw ...

Re: Back in Frisco before the Silicon

True (and me too). They did see creeping materialism though, and the Cult of Money. Confession time: It was late, and I grabbed the huge "Beat Generation" book off the shelf (the one Cecil gave to me a few years ago), and opened it to a random page, and it was Bob Kaufman's poem " Boms ." And the fi...
