Shining Tribute

Placed a cottonwood sprig on my flatbed scanner, scanned it, then digitally manipulated to this image. Lastly added text.

I'm a woman, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, cousin, aunt, mother-in-law, and friend. Theses are some of the 'titles' society has placed upon me with no pretense. One day the ashes of my body will be held in a box. For a short while, anyway.

Trappings of wrappings;
various hues layer upon layer.
Eyes view reflections
of spectrums not absorbed.

In sepulchers,
vestments of diverse colors
lie in crumbling mounds alike
for mother earth to reclaim.

What matters it,
the skin we’re in?

You are not a total stranger to me.
Nor are you, LR. Thank you for the kind welcome. :) Not sure how I'll fit in around here. Probably like the proverbial square peg in a round hole. Suppose one could always whittle away the corners just a bit. ;)

Good specimen. They grow wild in many areas of the plains and I don't recall ever seeing one of that size. Most of the ones I've seen are so small and stubby that one must be cautious not to step on them. Small though they may be, their thorns can still pierce a tennis shoe. Far easier to avoid them...

Good depth of field. Nice color saturation. Truly a visual treat. Next best thing to actually being there.

As a fellow member of the baby boomer crowd, LR, I hear ya. As trite as it may sound the old adage is very true… youth is wasted on the young. What once shone in my eyes I now see in the eyes of many members of the younger generation. The idealism, their ‘causes’… fresh, like they were the first one...

I recall the old classic movie "The Incredible Shrinking Man". As he grew (apologies for the pun) smaller and smaller with each passing day, he thought he would reach a point where he simply ceased to exist. Instead, he woke one morning to discover himself in a whole new dimension. I tend to think t...
