Orwell named his hero after Winston Churchill, who had his own political smoke and mirrors to flash at his constituency, and thought the atom bomb made a charming roast of sushi and tempura for the air conquistadores. When O'Brien of the Thought Police is torturing Winston late in the novel ( 1984),...

During the Reagan Era here, Arcadia, as you probably know, Ron and the English Brunhilde, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brunhilda_of_Austrasia Margaret Thatcher, pursued what was known to conservatives as the "tickle-down" theory. A fine cartoonist showed the two "leaders" drinking champagne, spillin...

A new series of illustrations for book covers and posters by me can be seen in the VISUAL ARTS section.

Anything I write about our Beloved Decider is now...

LR: Nice column. There's no question that B. Obama is burdened. I only hope no nut-- well, you know what I hint at-- I don't even want to say it, or speculate on it-- perish the thought-- and the act! It's lovely to feel you won't have to listen to Mr. Potato Head talking about "staying the course" ...
