Re: editorial

I like the lines that saw cites particularly and that "omelet florentine" just adds immeasurably to the poem. The words "Republican" and "evil" are getting closer to joining at the hip everyday. Obama? Will the Luray Caverns be renamed for him? I'd like to see some Harry Truman fire from him. Chris ...

Re: lonely hacker

A poem of the times. Very expressive. I was going to cite some of the lines but I'd be repeating the entire poem again. I think this is an excellent poem. Humanity got a chance to reconstruct a kind of Eden on the Internet but evil encroached. Some of the hackers do it for the old despiccable reason...

An Undergraduate Poem

(this is a poem---or a fragment of one written 40 to 45 years ago. It may be nothing but I like the sound of it. Comus and Samson Agonistes we never read. Aquinas sent us to bed. What good is it to dread the Sartre state of things, and act as some old stoic heroic boor, drifting as one of Dante's gh...

Re: Suggestion Box.

I like this----it is simply stated but it is an interesting poem. Yes, what happens to the suggestions? And is not offering an opinion the right thing to do? Or is it just a personal choice? We could probably spend an hour or two or more discussing participatory democracy. This poem stimulates thoug...

Re: missing my pettiness

I like your poem---very expressive. I will have to read the Lawrence poem to get the full impact of your poem. However, I do like your poem. And things like this what is it, this mourning? Some may criticize your first stanza as being cliche' BUT I think it is effective and appropriate for the conte...

Now your ring me out with both your
hands, strong and chiseled

Should be "now you ring me out....."

A pun on "ring" and "wring"?

I will have to give your poem & Rilke's some more thought before I comment on its meaning. Maybe later today----maybe tomorrow.

Re: The Time Being

I agree with your thoughts. There is hope if the grass and weeds make it through the cracks in the concrete. However, humanity may not survive the food and water crises and the wars---wow, do we have weapons to destroy ourselves. The simpler organisms, though without too much pride, will survive and...

Dumb Poem About the Times

the waves are racing up the beach the waves in the distance choppy my feet sink into sand oh man, it was so quick the trick is getting unstuck and out of here 'cause you see this ocean isn't water but a metaphor for debt and there ain't no end in sight they may call it liquidity but I call it raging...

The Tea Party of Texas

scorching days these
no wonder the prophets arise
predict the end
but it's not God but stupidity
that is coming
and all the technology
couldn't put mankind together

thankfully we can now
get an empty barrel for a pittance
and they make terrific war drums

stretch a little human skin over the top
and beat the tympani of man
til your muscles wither away,
like your brain did

Re: Man without a face

I'm not sure I get the reference here to the Man without a face. God? Yourself? The universe? But that's only my speculation. You might have something entirely different in mind.
