107.

big city new year’s
multicolored stars explode
tango music plays

La gran ciudad celebra el Año Nuevo;
estrellas multicolores explotan
y tocamos música del tango.

CARLOS AND THE SWALLOWS

(I ask myself, is this a poem about birds, friendship, or is it a social comment?) CARLOS AND THE SWALLOWS For weeks now the three cats have jammed the tiny kitchen window to yearn after the brave little swallows that perch on the TV antenna across the air shaft. These are the same swallows that zoo...

Re: ALICE ALONE.

A very real and moving poem for me ... my father's spinster sister was in a mental home for years. The times I tried to take her out for a visit (which she was allowed) she could only bear about half an hour in the real world. Well done, Terry. Sue

Re: The Warbler

I see you have been treated with violence for teasing pacirfic animals. As to the wicked warbler, I put my money on the fierce hummingbird! Interesting poem, Turner! Sue

Re: Haiku 106.

Thank you, Steve and Neo -- to enjoy the images reading a haiku brings to your mind is their reason for existing as a literary form.

Haiku 106.

106.

last night the moon bloomed
branches capture small stray moons
magnolia exalts

Anoche floreció la luna
y las pequeñas lunas extraviadas se cayeron sobre las ramas.
La magnolia se exalta.

HAIKU 105

garrulous grackles
roost at dusk on favorite tree
bicker gossip sleep

En las tinieblas los quiscales parlanchines
descansan sobre las ramas de su árbol favorito,
discuten, chismorrean y, al fin, duermen.

Re: Two short love (?) poems

The first is romantic and tender, the second ... realistic and sad. Ah, well. Life is like that. Sue♥

Re: CHRISTMAS MORNING

Gracias, Arcadia! Yes, of course, benteveo, bicho feo -- anyway, he had NO business hanging around outside my window, but it was lovely to see him. He is the third exotic (as in displaced) bird I have seen around the apartments. There are a pair of zorzals that "sing" from 4:00 AM on in the neighbor...

Re: CHRISTMAS MORNING

Hey, Jim! Would you believe I found a photo of him on the Internet? He is a "benteveo" He calls "ben - tey VEO!" ("Well I see you") and he certainly was in the wrong area -- he is a bird of streams and marshes and eats small fish. Rather the bane of the trout hatcheries here! At least you have a roa...

CHRISTMAS MORNING

Petruccio the Siamese meowed me awake. I staggered out of bed to the coffee pot. Last night’s wine goblets and water glasses winked and blinked in admonishment. You didn’t wash up! shrieked plates and flatware. So what! Wait your turn! I replied. Coffee! Ahhh! Left over plum cobbler, yum. Next – cat...
