Wink of The Poet's Eye--Extra!

False Colors (this is a special edition of The Poet's Eye) All nominating conventions are like church services. It's the classic example of preaching to the choir. Only the faithful are in the audience and the rhetoric can get lofty. The Democratic convention was a litany to John Kerry's heroic war...

it's quite a contrast between the Demo convention in Boston where there were very few protesters. The Boston cops dutifully erected cages for the possible hooligans, but as I recall there were no guests in them. And now we see a half a million people in the streets "singin' songs and carryin' signs....

MTV Awards

Last night I watched the MTV Awards on television. We rolled our little six foot red carpet out and I watched the lavish proceedings with my eleven year old pop music consultant, 'Lisha Pepsicola. She filled me in on pertintent facts like who this or that perfect plastic little girl was and who was ...

I didn't know Ram Dass was having health problems. He christened my son twenty-five years ago on Gaskin's Farm in Tennessee. You can always learn from a wake-up call. 9/11 was like that. The only problem is that we learned the wrong thing. Now we have to deal with the ever so much more troublesome t...

sooz and hest, I can't remember seeing so charged a convention atmosphere since Chicago. It concerns me a bit, because I heard the dull thud of police truncheons on human heads and smelled the teargas firsthand in '68. Just a couple of weeks I read an interview with Norman Mailer. He was worried abo...

Rodeo Time

I just spent the last hour watching a most amazing spectacle on C-Span. It was the demonstrators in NYC. As far as the eye of the camera could see up and down seventh avenue there were people "singing song and a carrying sighs." I watched the file by in front of the characteristically static C-Span ...

Z-ko-- I have discovered that if you just leave the title out in the response that it avoids this problem of truncated posts. Even on original posts the titles can only be so long (and I don't know exactly what so long is.) but back to the topic. My first instrument was the clarinet, in my jr. highs...

Is the Republican Convention...

Is the Republican Convention in NYC going to turn into a rodeo? there are a quarter million demonstrators expected, spearheaded by some very savvy and experienced agitators and organizers. I can't remember a more explosive situation since Chicago in 1968 when I sat knee to knee with Allen Ginsberg a...

Alice Cooper is a solid Republican

http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=40127 it seems that Alice Cooper is calling some of his fellow rockers morons for playing to defeat Bush--artists like James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Dave Mathews, John Mellencamp etc Cooper objects to connecting music and politics....
