Re: July 22, 1999

Key West is a wild little town, eh? At least it was in the 70s. Especially that stretch on Main St with all the open-air bars. Half expected to see peg-legged buccaneers with eye patches & tricorner hats tossing back flaggons of grog! Harrrr, me bucko.... Avast! Provincetown MA at the tip of Cape Co...

Sea Stories

All this scuba talk has dredged up a lot of memories - few coherent stories, just bits of chaff, motes, silt stirred up from the bottom of my mind into formless clouds - isolated impressions & scenes from my times spent underwater. I was treasurer of our local dive club. Once or twice a year we'd u...

Re: angst jam

as the clock counts down
I seem more aware
of each little ache and pain...
am I become that whiny old man
boasting how bad his gall bladder is?
or am I just paying close attention
to the all the new rattles and squeaks
of this old jalopy
in hopes of staving off
a major breakdown?

Re: Matthew and Mike

R.I.P., Mike. Sorry for your son's loss. I lost my dad in 1988. The wound has long since healed over, but sometimes I still talk to him when I'm alone with the dog on the trail.

harrowing tale of crisis management I scuba-ed some in the keys, but ended up being more fond of snorkeling...maybe it was my fear something might go wrong or maybe I liked to be unfettered, but wow what an experience for you...good thing to write about sasha... 8) I've been diving in the Keys, too...

Re: July 22, 1999

About the only thing I've experienced remotely close to this is getting lost on a sagebrush ocean in the desert... One time long ago I got disoriented in dense forest - I knew I wasn't far from a wood road, but had lost track of which way to go to get there. The wrong direction would have left me o...

Re: Zuihitsu

I think I have the world's worst timing. I'm always arriving just before disaster strikes, or just after something fortuitous has occurred. There were a few women at my workplace I had a bit of a crush on. I'd always try timing my visit to the coffee urn in the caff to coincide with theirs - but ine...

Re: C'mon, Studio8....

Jeez, they're all coming back to me now... A few days after painting one of my interior walls, I happened to notice a white spot a millimeter or two in diameter on one of the stairway treads. I wasn't wearing my glasses at the time, but just assumed it was a spatter of paint that had dried there. S...

Re: C'mon, Studio8....

My pee misadventure took place in the Quabbin Valley of central Massachusetts. There's a reservoir there now, under which lie the remains of four towns and their outlying settlements. My grandmother was one of the dispossessed, and to this day sentiments run high about the state's seizure of the la...

stilltrucking - been there, I'm afraid saw - I was wincing even before you got to where you actually stepped on it I killed a yellowjacket one afternoon while doing yardwork, and later in the day was wandering around outside barefoot and nursing a beer to admire my handiwork. I happened to step on ...
