I am currently listening to Regina Spektor's new album "Soviet Kitsch" (http://www.reginaspektor.com/index2.html) and it has me thrown in a peculiarly upbeat/moronic/desoltae mood. She has that effect on me, but as ironic as it is, I dig it. Although she's been out for much longer than my favorite Nellie Mckay (Nelliemckay.net) I learned about her much later. My original thought was "Hey, copycat... stop trying to be like Nellie... she's so much cooler", but when I realized she was already on her 3rd album, (and possibly as cool as Nellie) I would cut her some slack. I went and bought the album. Good choice. There is so much flavor to her voice and her music. The smooth flow, the ironic lyrics... the satire, oh the satire! I am reminded happily of Doreen's version of LRod's "Too Far" which can be found in my "poem, poem, sing me a poem" thred here in general discussion. anyone who knows me well knows that my music tastes is truly schizophrenic, but lately, I've been listening to more smooth, mellow artists. Probably inspired by the discovery of Regina. She has a great medly of songs here, ome funny, some somber, some just playful, with undertones of a more serious message. (I'm bad at this review thing, bear with me). At any rate, the purpose of this post is to see where all of you are in your musical choices. Lately I've been playing Loads of Regina Spektor, Nellie Mckay, Jamie Cullum (jamiecullum.com) Remy Shand (remyshand.com) Thicke (thicke.net) and other relatively mellow artists/bands. So humor me. What are you listening to?
sometimes I just like to breathe.
