I've lost a lot of people over the years, as I suppose we all have - but I don't think any of them stirred me quite the way October 7 did. The closest I can recall was the morning the space shuttle Columbia was announced "overdue" at the Cape landing site. I know a little about orbital physics, and knew there was only one reason a vehicle returning from outer space could be "overdue" - that it wasn't going to show up at all because it hadn't survived re-entry. But that idea hadn't yet permeated the media accounts - it was still just another news day on tv. I had this eerie, out-of-body, dreamlike sensation - for a moment I existed in two worlds, the one of Sesame Street and roadrunner cartoons and Wonder Years reruns - and the real world where seven people coming home at Mach 25 had just been incinerated alive - like I was the only person alive who knew about their fate. LIke the two timelines hadn't yet declared which one was going to become reality. It was kind of like that when I saw the news clips of Hamas storming across the border, like the ants spilling out from behind my baseboard last year - I knew this wasn't just another rocket attack for her. This wasn't business as usual. And for a moment it felt like I was the only one on this side of the ocean that knew it.

She was one of the gentlest, kindest people I've ever known, though we never met IRL. She deserved so much more than she got that day.

I agree wholeheatedly with your assessments of judih
i knew her and interacted nearly daily for long periods of time
more than 15 years in total
she was funny and brilliant and very supportive of my writing
and my art, even conspiring with you to create a digital tribute to me
but not just me....she connected with everyone
her spirit was a beacon of light
that
i still feel deeply
that..... can never be erased
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

I miss those vocal collaborations. I wouldn't have dared raise my hand if she hadn't encouraged me to do so.
