Floods and fires

Post by Doreen Peri » July 3rd, 2007, 11:12 am

Flooding in Texas, fires in California, homes being destroyed. Is it me or is all this new? I don't remember such weather problems being regular occurances before.

You think so?
Been some hellacious fires and floods over the past ten years. Is that what you mean or is just this year?

Seems to be a pretty regular occurance to me. But my memory is not what it used to be.

I don't know Doreen, I hadn't thought about it, maybe it is global warming, maybe it is the loss of wetalnds, bad management of forests, etc....
I would have to check the data.

No doubt the world is changing

I guess I haven't been paying attention. If this is a regular pattern, I missed it.

End times? People have been saying they're in the end times for centuries. I doubt it. Life goes on.

I thought it might have something to do with global warming.

*shrug*... I'm so uneducated about everything.

Just making it through the day is hard enough. When I try to study anything, I get frustrated because I'm really not all that bright. I used to think I was intelligent. Lately, I've found out I was fooling myself.

I edited that one above while you were replying to it. I took out this bit and the bit about the end times.
What is new to me is the amount of violence on TV and in the movies.

How many murders does the average child see before he reaches puberty?

Just movies, entertainment, I don't know why I worry.

is there nothing new under the sun?
not when it comes to human nature I think.

sorry I wander off topic
I used to be smart
but I must be dumb
cause what interests me
don't seem to interest anyone else here.

What time period are you talking about this year the last couple years, or longer?

I am the biggest fool here, no doubt.

You're right. It's all too violent for me. I have a hard time watching the news. Movies rated PG these days include murders. Kids have seen more violence than I've ever seen because I refuse to watch that shit. I'll walk out of the room in the middle of a film. The world is becoming desensitized. I was in Target the other day. Kids were playing a video game. Kill kill kill. That's all they were saying. "You can kill this one by doing this," "Hit that target and you kiill 10,000"... and on and on. Are video games training our kids to become killers? Sorry, I wander off topic.

What do you mean what interests you doesn't interest anyone else? I'm interested.

About the fires and floods, I'm talking about this year. Just seems WAY more than I've ever heard but news reports sound like it's a regular thing which is why I asked.

I miss eyelidlessness, he thought he got under my skin, not at all, we had this very interesting discussion about Cho the VT killer.

I posted a long reply to him and deleted it because I am lazy. I knew I would have to go point by point with him. I may have to repost it if I can find it. He is a chip off the old block for sure. 8)

I hope he is doing ok.

I will surf around and see if I can find any stats on the number of fires in floods in the past hundred years.

A lot of it I think is due to development I bet. Wetlands drained, rivers turnced into concrete troths, people building in the middle of forests...

He's doing ok. He's working on the new site. Plus he has other work so he's been too busy to hang out and post, probably. I'll tell him you said hello. I've gotten under his skin for 24 years. Believe me. I irritate him to no end and I have no clue why. He calls me passive-agressive. I'm just trying to be kind. Oh well. At least he talks to me now. :)

I think you might be on to something Doreen. It looks like there has been a huge spike in 2005 which is the most recent data I could find.

Not sure if those numbers have been adjusted for inflation.

I have not checked out the fires yet.

These are my golden years Doreen, while they last.

Retirement is sweet, I never get bored.
I got more time than money.
I just can't bring myself to join the AARP.
They make the NRA look like wimps as far as a lobby goes.
Too bad there is not an american association of young people
