Wax

Post by Doreen Peri » July 4th, 2007, 6:02 pm

I've got two huge boxes of albums... you remember.. the big old wax things ya put on your turntable. Do you still have a turntable? I don't.

I don't know what to do with them. I could take photos of the covers individually and try to sell them on ebay or craigslist but man that seems like a lot of trouble and work. I tried to find a local used record store to take them from me (hopefully buy them) but I haven't been successful with that yet.

Some of these are classics! I've got Janis and Jimmy and Dylan and Zeppelin and and oh man, a HUGE collection of eclectic music from jazz to folk to rock to classical. Some of the albums are not in the greatest shape because, let's face it, i used to have a gooood time way back when and having a good time can sometimes be messy. ;)

But others of them are in excellent condition!

I'd love to transfer many of them to mp3s but i imagine that would be very costly!

Any suggestions?

i bought a turntable.
you could try that.

there are the billion dollar wow systems
and there's a cheap version that's a simple turntable. Mine is made in some Asian country - there's gotta be a place to find one near you. The quality of sound is far below digital but that's part of the charm.

if i find a link, i'll post it.
found this: http://shopper.cnet.com/turntables/tt20 ... e&x=12&y=6
would you consider it?

you could always sell em. Make a quick buck. Although I wouldn't recommend that, unless maybe you had a studioeight forum where members could bid for them.

Makes me remember my childhood too. My mothers boyfriend had a collection that easily numbered into the hundreds. Vinyl was my introduction to music. I was rockin out to 60's and 70's vinyl way before I ever listened to the radio or bought my first cassette tape. Denese has a turntable but to my knowledge no records. I do love that sound though.

I believe this situation is solved. But thanks judih and yab for your suggestions.

My son has offered to rip them to mp3s for me. :)

Now I just have to figure out how to get the money to ship them out to him.

.....

oh and just had an idea... maybe I'll burn you guys some CDs once I get these ripped. Share the music! Life is a musical!

what a fabulous son
and what a great offer.
For a while, i had a system that recorded from record to cassette, but that little beauty blew up one day while minding its own business.

It's always good to be able to leave the record to mP3 transformation to the younger generation. excellent that your younger generation is so generous.

When it happens, share your list.

(Speaking in a old man's voice from over a hundred years ago) Yes I remember wheeling out those old Edison wax cylinders and stoking up the Victrola phone and laying down some heavy beat. Like Mister Thomas getting the funk on with "Mary Had A Little Lamb." Ohhh those were the days I tell you he he!
