Bunny Tale

Post by Lightning Rod » July 14th, 2007, 7:14 pm

I've written about Mingus before. He is our cat. A stoned cold predator. White as ice.

He's the terror of the neighborhood. The crows know who he is and send up a warning when they spot him.

Today Mingus came through the back door holding a bunny in his jaws, a baby bunny. When Doreen screamed, I took the bunny, his prize.

The bunny seemed still alive. There was no blood. His little eyes were open and lovable.

But he was perfectly still, frozen. I think this is what saved him. Mingus likes things that move and try to escape. His victims are not so much prey as they are playthings.

So, I rescued the bunny and held him in my palms for 15 minutes. He started to show signs of life. I locked Mingus in the house and took the bunny outside and placed him on the lawn. At first he was frozen again. I stroked him and then ....after a few minutes I nudged him on the tail and he bounded across the lawn paroled, pardoned from predatory death. He was only a baby. I hope he learned a good lesson.

did you ever see the documentary about Mingus getting evicted from his NY apartment? They showed him standing on the street with all his possessions, mostly basses in cases.

yes, I feed the beast. You should feel his tummy. And then Doreen feeds him. He knows just how to work us.
