Sounds like a great topic, Lightning Rod.
Speaking of writing... I wrote the forum names "Creative Writing" and "General Discussion" (You posted this topic in "Creative Writing")
For that type of writing, I'd vote for "understandable"
make sense?
*wink*
Want me to move it to General Discussion for you?

Word by word, paragraph by paragraph, idea by idea, thought by thought... all the above at some time or the other. mix it up. keep 'em guessing... That's what makes an all around writer, eh?

i would like to have my writing READ...the reader will have the subjective experience that they do and the cycle is complete for me.
other times, i write for reasons that don't necessarily include or preclude a reader.

I would have to vote for "other", since you didn't include " all of
the above".....

Sorry for not including All of the Above.
I intended to, but sometimes I'm a space-cadet.
Here are some of the things I would like to hear people say when they read my work:
"Wow, I never thought of it that way."
"That the way I've always felt about this subject, but in different words."
"Is this guy crazy?"
"I disagree, because....."
I would also like to hear the laughter of realization.
so I'm voting all of the above, even though it's not on the ballot.

I picked passionate but really there are a lot of choices up there that I'd like to pick. Clever/ witty... deep... lucid... understandable. I want to be the personification of all the best classifications. Don't you?

"cries for sympathy or praise" - Because I would like to think that I actually have something worthwhile to say, even thoug heverything I write is random beyond all heck.

other.
I'd love for people to say: Oh this has to be read aloud.
(not to anyone else, specifically, but for themselves)

cries for sympathy or praise...
definitely!
I want people to read my writing and respond by feeling very sorry for me because I'm such a hack writer, terrible at it, and I want them to be conscious of the fact that it's rude to tell me the truth since it could hurt my feelings even though I already know the truth, and instead of saying, "I feel so sorry for you. Your writing sucks" (even though they do feel sorry for me), I want them to say, "Damn, Doreen, you're a fine writer! One of the best writers I've ever read!"
And I mean it.
I'm not kidding.
Thanks for asking.
