Hester gets a job......sigh

A Job offer came in yesterday...an I am excited, and also pissed off and afraid....
It's a job as a caseworker at a free clinic. This is the part that excites me, because this is the kind of thing i'm good at, resourceful at, and the work rewards me spiritually so much, to be of help, to be scrappy on behalf of others in need.....I love doing this type of work.
But the scary, piss me off part is that they can only offer me 24 hours a week, at eleven something an hour. There are medical benefits, but that to me is not such a grand thing, since benefits seem to be like a coupon for 5 percent off anymore, and besides, I don't like going to the doctor anymore period. I think they cause more trouble and disease just to keep us coming back. (heh)
Anyway, I accepted the position.....and will keep looking for full time, and if I get it I'll just leave I guess. I hate that though. Usually I 'll tell an employer up front if that's what i'm going to do. But it would have meant not getting the job. Man, talk about no good choices. I worry that my karma is going to suffer, not telling them i'm continuing my search.
But friends tell me it is okay not to mention it.
What do you think?
But hey, it's a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I guess a sorta celebration is in order?????

Theda,
I'm glad you got something going. Don't hesitate a bit to keep looking. A part-time employer can't demand that type of fidelity.
I have been lucky too and have a couple of jobs. But I'm still looking.
I guess that's why I call it The Poet's Eye. I'm always looking.
Go girl. Use what you got and go for better.

Congrats on the job! It sounds perfect for you!
You may not think your health insurance benefits are worth much but believe me, they are worth a great deal! You never know what's going to happen!
It might not be all the hours you want or need, but who knows? If you devote yourself to it, it might expand into a full-time job later.
Sure, you can look on the side for something full-time, but if you leave this job, just be sure to give them two weeks notice. And tell the people you are interviewing with for the full-time job that you will have to give 2-weeks notice to your current employer. This is standard. All employers understand this process.
Enjoy your new job and congratulations!

case worker? free clinic!
i know what a free clinic is, but what kind of cases?
social? legal? medical?
will this lead to poems?
will it be a 'who knows what it may lead to' kind of job?
it sounds fabulous.
p.s. how many more hours do you need to survive?

I don't get karma hester.
Every time I read about the latest infant murdered in San Antonio, I think, "I guess they had it coming", ya know six month old babies can have bad karma too, right?
Twenty-four hours sounds like a lot to me cause it sounds like an intense job unless you are fortunate enough to have
“Samaritrophia”
“Samaritrophia” - “hysterical indifference to the troubles of those less fortunate than oneself.” (p. 41), “...a disease, and a violent one, too, when it attacks those exceedingly rare individuals who reach biological maturity still loving and wanting to help their fellow men.” (p. 43) So the doctor treating her has to decide “...how much guilt and pity Mrs. Z might safely be allowed to feel!” (Ibid.) Before doing this, he investigates normality and “...was bound to conclude that a normal person, functioning well on the upper levels of a prosperous, industrialized society, can hardly hear his conscience at all.”
Scientific Suicide
*
Disclaimer I have not read the above article I just ripped and ran with the quote from God Bless You Mr. Rosewater a novel by Kurt Somebody
I believe in conscience, I believe in jimmy cricket.
Like somebody said above. You don't owe them an explanation.
You know Theda when bad shit happens to me I blow it off as karma, it beats self-pity. I take a union brother home into the black ghetto and I wind up getting hit upside the head with a two by four. No idea why but then I remember the elephant I hit upside the head with a two by four and say to myself well I guess it was payback for that.
Karma is a comfort concept for me because it beats feeling sorry for myself.
Don't work too hard dear Theda.
Good luck on the new job.

You're good at that..once they quickly realize that, they'll start piling the hours on you and you'll get a raise.

I love stable strangelets. There is no place like home. Don't worry 'bout karma, it don't worry 'bout you. So set course and bring the mains on line. As for me I'm rounding the first curve just past Pulpit Rock, up ahead is a whole village of stable strangelets. I have a bag full of clues. You will make a good advocate. I love stable strangelets.
