Why is "sentimental" a dirty word?
And on a similar note, why is "bleeding heart" intended as debasing?

ah, my sentimental friend
good to see your face
idea:
write a song about the baby who was kidnapped from its mother's womb
that's a real bleeding heart subject

you captured a thought that has been jabbing at me since I had a debate with my older sister about something similar a few days ago
Why is being emotional, being sentimental such a bad thing?
My sister says being emotional is being weak
I completely disagree
why would showing any kind of emotion be a sign of weakness? Can it not be considered a form of expression and be left at that? No, society has to scrutinize and critisize anyone who sheds a tear.
A life where one considers the soul's expression as weakness is a life that lacks the magic of existing

I would agree that it's good to see my face, but jpeg compression does interesting things to my complexion/ whereas your picture cleverly obscures the skin itself, thereby avoiding any such peculiarities. All we need to be able to decipher is the hair, the jacket, and the hat and it's quite apparent that we're looking at a picture of Lightning Rod
\i have difficulty writing songs about specific things. I could probably paint a painting about that though.
I once drew a sketch that I describe thus: "It's a piece about aquatic animals that contain more mercury than a rectal thermometer."

Lucy!:
I would have to agree that emotion is weakness in terms of a hunter-gatherer-survival-sense view of the world; but survival isn't all that important to me
(I long ago decided that if Life demands that I sacrifice the desires and qualities of my electric burning Me in order to attain some chimerical SuccessSurvivalSalvation, then I align myself with Death)

yeah, I have trouble with assignments too
do you think that Zappa assigned the Captain to write Brown Shoes Don't Make It or Hot Rats?
I doubt it.

I can do assignments, but only if I assign them to myself. And it's a rare occasion that I feel up for some self-discipline
Once I wrote up a list of maybe 100 words I liked and picked about 20 or so at random, and said "Ok, write a poem that includes all these words." It worked pretty well; this is what came out:
"Graveyard Kisses"
There's a doll in the closet,
there's glass in the gun.
We're going where we're going, dear,
rain and snow and ice may come.
The birds all quarrel for their seed,
but the Crow will have his nails.
The mountain dwarves will have their gold
a-clinking in their pails.
And there's still a tunnel to your window, love,
from the night of the fainting storm
when we shared our graveyard kiss
(and the rose Will have its thorns)
And you know the island is sinking,
for the rats have chewed a leak
and the weeds are to the roof now,
and we're at the Spider's feet
Paralysed by howling wind,
while the rooster's lost his beak..
But we'll make it up the ladder in time,
for I've put glass in the gun.
We're going where we're going, love,
scream and flame and old may come.

I've already recorded the music for that one as a Dream & Shadow Huntsman Group song. First time I've used the mandolin on a dark piece
/and what's all this about my complexion? You tryin' t'seduce me or somethin'?
hehe
