I don't know what happened to my patriotism. I miss it.

really. patriotism used to be simple - celebrate the 4th of july with a BBQ and friends, maybe shoot off some firecrackers or watch a big display the city put on for the citizenry. life was good and easy compared to today. today we're complicated and busy doing anything to find something better than where we are. we're dissatisfied and keep looking for something to fill the void we walk around with like an empty gas can in a desert so long and big that vultures don't even fly there for fear of getting lost. we're scared and willing to kill anyone or anything to prove it. sick.

I questioned my patriotism on this past Wed. as Canada day past with fireworks et al. I found myself in my studio finishing off a piece that is a prairie scene with a grain elevator. I decided, or rather reconfirmed in my mind that patriotism in the hands of political idealism often goes astray, guided by the power that corrupts all beauty. Patriotism for me exists in the land, and my life long affection for it's awe and beauty.
