Browser question
I'm using IE and gettin sick of all the spam I keep getting... someone suggested i switch to either netscape or opera, and my son had me switched to mozilla firefox, but that program refused any passwords or users (Soo) from logging on so i dumped it..
Any suggestions or praises about your browser would enlighten me...
thank you,
c

I use IE with the latest patch (service pack?) from Microsoft. There is a built in pup-up blocker which does wonders. In my office, I have the Google pop-up blocker which does the same thing as the latest version of IE.
I don't know if a browswer helps limit spam. I run my home email through comcast.net and use outlook. I get next to no spam.

hi cecil
i'm using opera and am pretty content with how it works.
there are a few sites (usually those that have microsoft connections) that can't be viewed correctly with it, but in those rare cases i can still use internet explorer, that, of course, is installed on my puter as a standard feature.
i have disabled cookies, so i need to log in over and over again, but that's just a minor nuisance compared to spam and spyware.
i still do get some spam, but that's not browser related, but due to the fact that we run a business website where anyone can get our email dress from.
it's not too much, though, and i can easily select 'real' email from the spam manually (i am using outlook express to manage my email).
my suggestion:
give another browser like opera or firefox a try without de-installing your IE, and see what fits you best.
hope that helps... and a belated happy new year to you and soo!

I've been using firefox for a few weeks now. I tried Opera some time ago and found too many pages viewing incorrectly, which is more microsofts fault than Opera's, but that doesn't change the problem.
I do like firefox, pages seem to load faster. I wish I could figure out how to turn off the tabbed browsing function, as it causes some issues with certain pop-ups (ones that I want to pop-up). It requires some timing with the control key, which I have mastered, but my old lady has not, to her frustration.

i downloaded mozilla firefox 6 weeks ago and absolutely love it...i haven't had any of the pw problems you seem to be having...no idea why
IE sucks because of the hidden trapdoors and shit that slows your computer down because you don't know nefarious ne'er-do-wellers are mining your data without you seeing it...patches work, but only until the bastards find ways around that...firefox doesn't have that problem becvause the hackers don't waste time developing programs to hack into it because they focus their efforts on IE - the popular browser
i don't use outlook for e-mail anymore...it's all done through yahoo, which doesn't have the spam problems that hotmail has
in 6 weeks there has been exactly 1 page firefox wouldn't read...i don't use IE in those cases...i downloaded netscape for those purposes
