What Would You Do?

Okay, if time or money were no object or whatever it is that keeps you from accomplishing whatever it is that would be a passion for you, what would you do? Would you travel to the worlds great places? Would you spend all your time writing a great novel? Would you create something you have always thought about?

I have so many things I would love to do, mostly if time permitted as most of the things I really want to do don't take that much money.

Painting (batiking) on silk would be one

Picking up on my weaving and learning new skills would be another

Taking a metals class at the University here with the great Rachelle Thiewes would be another

Visit Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, WA, home of the great glass artist Dale Chihuly, and take a class there in lampwork beads

Make pine needle topped gourd baskets using needles from my own pines in New Mexico and my own lampworked beads

Make walking sticks with my peyote stitched beaded handles (I have made one with a red manzanita branch that Cec found in the creek behind our place in NM.)

Self publish a book of my haiku, with the cover picture of Cecil and Nate stepping over the sky.

Paint a large canvas, very detailed a la Miro

Visit all the wonderful and great art museums in the world, especially the contemporary ones like MOMA

See all the wonderful buildings that great architects have created like Frank Lloyd Wright or Frank Gehry

Attend a Sting concert and get a backstage pass

Gosh, the list is pretty much endless...but time and stuff get in the way but I can dream, can't I?

What would you do?

Okay, if time
was no object
If time was no problem I would marry my true love when she asked me to marry her in 1962

Good question, that was just an old man's fantasy I will try to come up with a better answer. After I give more thought. That was my first thought.

Second thought if money was no object.
I think I would travel too. Buy me a sailboat, ocean going.

with my mate, a leisurely journey to art destinations, architectural stand-outs and natural scenic sights and of all types, worldwide, would surely be an unforgettable experience.

Travel the world for about 5-7 years, living in nice hotels. Greece, Italy, England, France, Australia, Hawaii, Africa, New Zealand being prime locations of choice to stay for several months each. Ideally with a traveling companion... a lover would be nice. While traveling, write and draw and paint and take photographs, swim and enjoy great food and drink.

Open an Arts Center where artists of all genres congregate, create and collaborate. It would have a theater, work spaces, studios, and a cafe. It might also have live-in studio lofts with kitchens, baths, and bedrooms. I don't want to run it, I just want to own it. I would hire people to operate it and manage it.

There would be dance classes, theater classes, performances, poetry workshops, painting, drawing, sculpture, etc. and since I owned the Center, my lifestyle would be attending classes and participating in the productions/performances, etc. Adjacent to the cafe, there would be a storefront where musicians, poets, novelists, artists would sell their books & cds. There would also be gallery space for art shows.

I don't think either of these things is asking too much.

heh

Finish it off with an all-inclusive month here http://www.elcid.com/marina_beach_resor ... merSavings

Then come home and drive my new car, renovate my house to include a full shop for working with wood, metal, ceramics, glass, etc., a studio for painting, a turret with my study and observatory, a spa and pool in back, and extra rooms for guests.

Then I would make a movie, invent a better way to fill sandbags, buy an old church and turn it into a community center/meeting place/eductaional facility, and bascially just do whatever I felt like doing each and every day.

That's what I would do if time and money were no object.

Peace,
Barry

admin note to Barry - i added some code to shorten your first link because it was so long it was stretching the page wider than the page design... hope that's ok with you

I turned it into a "click here" instead. To see how i did it in case you want to shorten a long link in the future, click edit to view the code.

oh, I am loving this! :D

True colors are shining through.

Kurt, would love to visit some of those galleries of yours, especially the one in Venice.

Truck, marry your true love for love is pretty expansive and you never know when it will hit you again. It is never too late unless you think it is...

Arcadia, we are just up the road, come travel here and we will show you the sights.

Doreen, what a wonderful dream and now the energy is out there since you have made it concrete here on the screen. I'll take the studio on the left, down the hall...number 9. I'd be happy to organize and manage the place so you can travel. I'll leave the light on...

mtmynd, ticket for two? You bet!

Why Barry, you are an archeologist at heart! Ruminating in the ruins (btw, your link to Angkor Wat is broken) and driving that sexy little roadster. I will visit your community center and would love to teach a course or two in metals/beadwork or "how to bullshit in three easy steps." I can do either well. Your Suzen is gonna enjoy that all inclusive month in the beach resort too, I bet. You need a really nice telescope for that turret also.

It is fun just to dream and scheme my friends, isn't it?

Well, see, they got all caught (bought up?) in this foolishness called The Reagan Revolution and, now realizing they've been left behind, they're busy playing catch-up.

Peace,
Barry
PS: Too bad The Reagan Revolution wasn't a Copernican Revolution, huh?;)

Well, for the past few years I've been ball busting myself for not having the time or money to see friends (or at least people I know) who would take up real planning, time, and money away from me to see and socialize with. If I had the time and resources, I would see them, and not have to deal with the guilt any longer. *sigh* :)

I'm still dreaming about opening my Hotel 60's!!!!!!You know, the one with the Grateful Dead penthouse, the Bob Dylan chamber, the Joni Mitchell suite. Complete with coffee house jams, complimentary cannibus, and a communal organic garden!!!!!!!
I just need me a benefactor!
