I missed his speech but heard he said he didn't deserve it.
Will look for it on youtube.
I DO applaud his diplomatic efforts, for sure, and that's why they gave it to him, I guess.
But if he thinks he doesn't deserve it, maybe he should have said, "Since I don't deserve it and the US is involved in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, I'm going to earn it by ending the wars immediately and bringing all of our troops home."

Wouldn't that be nice.

He donated the money to charity.
Like him, I too see it as worldwide recognition as to how far he has come, and as a call to action. I am very pleased and proud. I am hopeful this will give him the courage to continue in his direction, despite some very powerful, ingrained, opposing forces.

They should have given it to George W Bush
He has done more to deserve it than Obama.
"he has created a wildnerness and called it peace" Mangled quote from Thuc man or Tacitus I forget.
It is an invidious honor
He should have refused to accept it.
Last sitting president to win it was Woodrow Wilson
who singlehandly did more to bring us World War I part II than all those wicked Europeans like LLoyd George and Georges Clemenceau
He got his fucking League of Nations by his acquiescence to the rape of Germany.
I see snakes on everyhting today
I should sit on my hands.
I should not complain
I want to be a Buddhist
Everything is perfect
just the way it is unfolding
Those Europeans are so slick at claiming the moral high ground.

Does the Nobel Hate America?
By Tobin Harshaw
http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/20 ... merica/?hp
I just been reading too many editorials I suppose.
I don't think it will matter much.
But I hope it helps.
I just pray that he does not turn out to be another Woodrow Wilson.
All this talk about American Values and Wilsonian Ideals makes me nervous. How good are our values, better than Norway's? Better than France, England, Germany, Canada?
Am I not a good american to wonder about these american values that we are so proud of? I do not feel proud that Obama won that prize. I do not feel as if America has won the super bowl.
Pundits keep talking about how we got to get back to our American Values. The America of Woodrow Wilson. I say fuck that shit.
Judge Goldstone, sure why not.
I like the concept of "war crimes"
One of those things like "military intelligence"
American Values..? Value what? Our values have dissipated into the fog of fear and stress. What values we may have had in the past are no longer and will never be the same. We've become a country that distrusts itself... more than ever, maybe.. but in sheer numbers (we're more populated than ever before, as is the world) the divisions between us are huge. All this distrust and petty anger built upon anything at all that triggers our tongue to wag at the assumed opponents who want to somehow 'get us' before we get them... signs of paranoia and it'll destroy ya'... No values in that at all, American, human, worldly or anything else... our stress factor continues to rise and anger follows in the footsteps prepared to explode like a suicide bomber to get even with the enemy within us.
The Noble Prize is GIVEN to it's recipients ... not sold to them. When any Noble Prize is GIVEN to a person, the person will thank them and go home and place their gift withing their home. Why the belly-aching? Jealousy is the first offender. When was the last time a Republican received the Noble Gift?
Who amongst us would turn down this honorable gift bestowed upon many throughout the years? Would anyone deny a Peace Prize? How foolish to do so.

He gave some speeches. Very good speeches. I think it would have been classy for him to turn it down. To make the point the work has just bgun. I would not have turned it down myself. I am just saying Obama is a better man than me.
I don't have any strong opinions about it. If it in anyway helps him I will be very happy.
I don't think the Europeans really get us Cecil.
Neither did that Arab guy who wrote the article about the two Americas. Remember that one?

Why do the critics/cynics keep bringing up his short Presidency? The Noble Prize for Peace is given to individuals, not titled officials. I think it was bestowed on Barack Obama, the man, and what he stands for. Is his career too short for a Peace Prize..? Is there somewhere in the bylaws of the Noble Committee that states anyone who receives the Peace Prize has to have at least 8 years of a Presidency under their belts? Foolish idea. Does the Committee consider a person's age or their wisdom in determining who receives the Prize? It sounds more likely the latter... wisdom has a lot to do with the Peace Prize and those who have the largest audience for that wisdom would be the likeliest of recipients.
"Give Peace a chance..." fits right in with Lennon's birthday and Obama's nomination for the Noble Peace Prize, doncha' know?
