Party Hardy, Tea Party!

Party Hardy, Tea Party!

Image

This picture was on this morning's MSNBC website. I couldn't help but notice the look of sadness and confusion in their eyes as they held their right hands over their hearts as if their country was dying. In their minds it surely must appear that way, these same white men who grew up in a predominately white work force, in a white neighborhood... every one in their lives were white and now here we are with a black President, the new leader of the free world. It's not something that's supposed to be, not yet... they are not ready. They were okay with Condi Rice in a powerful political position, but this Barack Hussein Obama...? Too foreign. Hell, he probably was born in Africa or somewhere where their flag doesn't wave.

And the changes going on? Dang it! It's happening too fast and they're having a hard time with it (excellent Poet's Eye today - thx, eLRod!). They'd just as soon overthrow our government than allow these 'radicals' to come in and try to turn things around. They have Sarah Palin on their side... they might have good ol' John McCain right there with them... they're not real sure just yet... and they got a whole bunch of good ol' religious folks on their side.. the side of God, no doubt.

They see their government being turned around in a direction that doesn't look so good to them. What ever happened to their country where white folks weren't running the show? It's not that they're all prejudiced... not in their eyes. They just don't think anyone but their own white elected officials can speak for them. They can't get it thru their heads that anyone not white like them, and as old as them, can understand their needs their government should be giving them. Debt ain't one those things they asked for and they don't want... hell! whose gettin' that money? Not them.

They don't know or they ignore the fact that the last administration robbed the Treasury that was pretty fat when they came in... not to mention hijacking the GOP, the once proud 'Grand Old Party' had selfishly become the 'Greedy Old Party'... but they won't go there, not when they have a young, well-spoken, smart man voted into office as their next President that doesn't look like them and more than likely doesn't eat the same foods or drink the same beer as them... hell! he probably doesn't watch NASCAR or even fish! I can he relate to them? And what's this Obama fella doin' talking trash about our health system... the 'greatest health care system in the world'??? Not that they themselves can afford all the system has unless those same folks are rich and got lot's o' money to keep themselves healthy... No sirree... that black man in our White House is too strange and he just ain't down on their level, talking their language. He's kinda uppity and talks to good. You can't trust people who are smart... they'll take advantage of ya' and clip your wallet before ya know it.

The only change these Tea Party folks know is that jingle-jangle in the bottom of their pocket. Any other change is not a choice to be had. Things gotta stay the same, just like they always been. Why change our country? It's been good enough for them and their family ... it's the same country their parents grew up protectin'... damn it all... it's their country. Don't change a thing. Get that stranger outta their and put one of our own in... somebody that ain't too clever and don't talk down to them... they don't like that.... not one bit.

----

their all part of a changing face of this country and even this world... a world moving at cyber speed and beyond, making communications faster and more clear with HDTV and Blue Ray. The shadows are disappearing as the truth approaches noon and too many are not ready to come out of the shadows that hid their secrets that made them into what they wanted to be... not what they are.

Are we ready for the future?

Yeah, things have changed and are changin', all right. Catch the irony in this pic? Remember back in the sixties, when some of the young folk wore american flag clothes? That old guy with the shirt was probably what then? 35? Something like that? Do you think back then he was one of the dudes who saw some hippie wearing american flag jeans and wanted to beat his ass, maybe even did? And look at him now. Some people just will never get it.

Peace,
Barry

Yes, Barry... I sure do remember those days. You're right about that old fella. The eyes of those men speak to me and what they are saying is confusion about these new days. Sure, I'm in their age range myself, but fortunately I think the future is not a scary place and I look forward to it as long as I can. I marched for civil rights back in the 60's and I'm damn glad I did... one more voice for freedom.

Let's hope that damn Tea Party crowd tires out and lets the youth worry about tomorrow. It is theirs (yours) more than us old folks. (When I see old politicians like John McCain, I see weary eyes and tired outlooks that need to shut down and retire. Enough is enough.

Hola, arcadia!

Mate? I have a friend I met here in El Paso who has a large mate online store. She introduced me and SooZen to mate mnay years ago. I had never heard or knew about it. It turns out her mother is Argentinian and her father an American who met his wife when he worked down there.

Here's her website: http://www.nativayerbamate.com/

Do you have a gourd y bombilla?

The Dude wearing the flag shirt gives me the creeps.
His face is mean, and he can't hide it.

A mean face is meant to hide a person's fear.

But knowing that doesn't stop one from wanting to go up to him and pinch that nose until tears run from his eyes, does it? ;)

i just live in this world....immersed in the various cultures....high-fiving a young russian who's jokin' with an x-sailor in the cafe....working with an old el salvadorian all the live long day.....i'm the only gringo left in the rod patch they all say.....america is all about adapting and it's gonna happen no matter who says get the hell outta my way......

absolutely, wired... i totally agree. living in this border town where the hispanic majority is in the high 70's, one cannot help but realize this country is diverse and continues evolving and growing into a dazzling blend of multiculturalism that has been seen in any other nation. We either have to adapt or die out... it's nature's way.

btw: the same has to be applied to all nations around the globe... evolve or die denying.

Do you have a gourd y bombilla?

sure! :) in fact at the moment I have at home three gourds (mates) of different sizes -two made from calabacitas and the other from quebracho´s wood- and one bombilla.

cool to hear about your amiga matera from El Paso, Cecil! :D I want a photo of you as a texan-gaucho drinking mate with Soo some day!!

I only had one attempt to drink brazilian yerba with my own mate and bombilla once at Garopaba´s beach (our argentinian yerba supplied had finished and we bought the green- fosforescent brazilian one!). It was impossible to drink...! not for the taste, but because the bombilla didn´t seemed to work. Laughing locals near gave us what they call "camisinha" -a kind of filter- and we were finally able to keep drinking again..

very interesting... i had never heard of it... I just googled "yerba mate" and got an education! ;)

Arcadia... does it give you energy? is it a stimulant like caffeine? Or does it relax you like herbal tea? (conflicting info on the websites... how can it do both?) Do you like the flavor of it?

mmm...what kind of tea do the old boys in the photo like to drink? just guessing..!

& about mate:

Cecil: coffee...I like very much to drink coffee in winter, plain black coffee without additives or capucchino for some change! (specially at 9:30 am at school when I´m usually freezing in the patio! ). I also like to drink darjeeling-like kind of tea in winter when I´m eating at the same time something very sweet or as a first drink in the morning. Somewhere in the middle and during all the seasons, of course, I love to drink mate (the cold or hot versions according to the weather). And no, not all the argentinians drink mate with gourd and bombilla (as an example of that you can have my brother & parents) but most of them drink mate in some of its possible ways.

Doreen: so, you were investigating!!!!!!! :D what can I say, I´m not the kind of person that if drinks coffee at night can´t sleep..! but I feel mate somehow more gentle than coffee, and the ritual of "cebar" mate yeah.., it´s very relaxing!! and to drink mate in group is at some mysterious point magic!

They believe "their country just in all her projects and inexhaustible in her resources"
Her words, as applicable to major nations today as to England in 1811, provoked widespread, often vitriolic, criticism from those "who think their country just in all her projects, & inexhaustible in her resources"
