So sad news... impresionantes photos from Santiago...I love our neighborn country (despite its next president, the ALCA, the Beagle and Malvinas war! :( )...sending healing vibes to them, good knowing that they were somehow prepared for earthquakes and expecting all the help needed is coming where it is needed.

I watched television coverage throughout most of the day yesterday at the massive destruction of so much hu'man property... but (hopefully) not a massive loss of life.

Fifty years ago the most powerful earthquake ever recorded occurred in Chile and now this. The country is prone to earthquakes and has had many of them throughout their history. When they rebuild I hope they can afford to make more earthquake resistant structures. That is where so much loss of life is found... dwellings unable to withstand such powerful quakes.

Did you feel any of the earthquake in Rosario, arcadia? It was reported here that it was felt in Buenos Aires.

judih: yeah, what a koan!, I guess there are a lot of things to do before and after that!

Cecil: no, at least I didn´t feel the earthquake, but I woke up at the hour when it was happening with a terrible headache -the first one of that kind in months-, but that it also could have been caused by multiple other possible causes!

While staying in San Pedro de Atacama last january, I had the opportunity to talk with a pro-Piñera chilean in a funny way. I was sitting with my friends in a cheap local bar for locals (San Pedro is a so plentiful tourist city!) and our closest table neighbors wanted to talk!. Me too, of course!

Chileno1: hola, hola! argentinas? de dónde son?
Yo: Rosario
Chileno 1: Rosario...
Yo: no!
Yo: y ustedes?
Chileno 1: hasta donde sé, solteritos los dos!
Yo: (a mis amigas) alguien sabe qué estamos comiendo?.
Chileno 1: bien!!! Ahora vamos a ir adelante!!
Amiga 1: (a mí) uy, dejá, no te vas a poner a discutir acá...!

changing themes (or not) an interesting article I already read not sure where also in Spanish:

http://www.counterpunch.org/burbach03092010.html (interesting last párrafos of the article)

And hoping for peace, learning and happiness to the chilean people despite its new government (it seems I can´t avoid to say despite  :? )

Any opinions on the new Chilean President who is not a socialist like the last President, who left office with a 83% approval rating? I don't know the election laws of Chile, but maybe there is a limitation to how long a person can be President? But why the people would elect a non-socialist after most the people liked the socialist President, I find curious.

Ajudame, amiga mia, por favor!

Que dicen Argentina? ;)

no idea exactly... no idea exactly what´s happening in my own country, what can I hope for..!! But sure I have ideas, I am plenty of them!

1- Chile despite "this type of socialism" or "now right wing" governmet has determinate alineamiento in the zone and with USA (economic & political) that maybe had lessen the possible differences between the two options in the moment of vote
2- The candidate for the Socialist side was an ex-president that maybe the people wouldn´t want to see in the Palacio de la Moneda again. It´s a presidential republic, you know...
3- The real economic situation of the people is not good (now?), and paradoxically a leader that appears as "mano dura" , traditionalist and sucssesful in other fields in societies with several years of dictatorial past gives a promise of security, order, roots and development
4- Piñera just did good marketing

If I found argentine articles, I´ll post them!

yesterday there was a solidarity-festival in BA. See:

Hope Chile continues to get international help. Earthquakes are terrible things, and especially when they hit this hard. Our prayers are with
Chile in her national time of need.
