I have heard it said that war is hell.

Gee, it sounds like so much fun when I hear a couple of NPR reporters talking about it this morning.

If you're referring to the segment about the Amer Indian's being shot, I'd have to go with Firsty's take.

My own experience of many Marine attitudes to war is that ST has it right, 'war is fun.' The general public too, seems to see war as one more superbowl experience.

I guess I was being a misogynist. The reporter embedded with the marines, no ladies room. Had to pull her knickers down to squirt the dirt in front of all those Afghanistan soldiers.

Used to be a saying when I was growing up during the war "Go Tell A Marine" I thought it was from world war two but apparently it was from world war one. The meaning was you think you got it tough, take your petty ass civilian complaints and try telling them to a marine.

Got dam Huns, I miss my innocence. When all the evil in the world was overseas and we were the good guys.

well, hm — they also mentioned how the marines had to spoon all nite to stay warm — maybe it wasnt misogyny at all!

;)

it was a moving report. i was driving my older son to school and it gave us an opportunity to follow up on last week's interview with the dalai lama, to talk about death and all that. he's in the midst of his first existential crisis, and i've really got my hands full trying to encourage a little non-magical thinking on his part without making it seem like the rest of his family members are a bunch of goofy ghost-worshippers.

Sure it does. And a good way for poor folks to get an education these days as well!

Listen to Roger Water's Amused To death...he sets up war like a sporting event complete with loud mouthed announcers and an anthem with tributes to the almighty buck...

Read an article about women marines leaving for their deployment in Afghanistan. Told to wear their ponytails outside their helmets so they can gain access to the women.

I guess you are all right, war is good TV. That is how we got into this pickle again. The republicans had better production values.

Non magical thinking? I wonder what marksman45 is doing. Nobody left here but us graybeards. Marksman had a way with magic kind of restored my faith in alchemy.

Missed your writing firsty.

Speaking of ghosts and magic

Spent the day surfing for some stuff I remember from an embryology class I took 50 years ago.

We have come a long way since then.
