We're rolling right along with it, Mark, if you're talking about the roving Word Jammers!

Thom, at the Scroll, set up a Word Jam forum especially for the roving jammers and we had our first jam there last week! (as you know, 'cause you were there! woohoo!) We set a schedule for 1st and 3rd Friday of every month! - first at the Scroll, third, here. (we've even got WJ logos! :))

Next week, Friday, January 21st starting at 3PM EST - 12 noon PST - we're back here at S8 in the Jam Session forum for another jam! I posted the month''s schedule in the What's Happening forum.

We were hoping to include AC as one of the sites collaborating in the roving word jams, but they're more interested in an occasional jam there, I guess (given that they don't want to promote anything happening on any other site for some reason I have yet to determine :))

Do you know of any other sites who would be interested in having the roving word jammers come pay a visit?

tick-tock... tick-tock... times flyin' by! The more sites, the merrier!

If we had 4 sites participating, we could have a jam once a week, alternating between the sites, maybe.

Whaddya think?

Mark, the Beat Ramblers is a troupe of word jammers, going from place to place, online. At least, that's my understanding of the idea.

Did you have something more physical in mind?

wow....I guess I did.....I was thinking of a group...like a band....not a general jam.....that was what I thought was going on that time we all threw the ideas around...we were already jamming online at that time so why would you have to talk about it, now what I was envisioning was a group of poets that perform and record together. I sure did not listen or missed something j.........

Wow! Who knew?

Sorry, Mark! I had no idea you were talking about doing it live! Maybe we could get a group of local people to do this! That's a dream I've had for a long time, but I thought of it as in the future and never mentioned it here.

At the time I brought it up, I was talking about a cyber group going from website to website. Yes, we were already jamming online, but only here. I was talking about a collaborative effort on the internet between several websites. I'll find the link to the old thread for you.

If you want to do this live, we'll have to start sending out emails and making phone calls to local poets to try to find out if there is an interest. And then, we could search out local venues who would welcome us on a regular basis.

It's a great idea to do it live! I can't seem to find any place around where I live that even has an open mic on weekends, which would be the only time I would be able to do it, myself. They all have bands on weekends and the ones that do have open mics have them in the middle of the week, which, as I said, isn't feasible for LR and I, anyway.

I do know of one place .... a restaurant on Lake Anne.... I've spoken to the owner about doing an open mic there on a sunday afternoon.

I have a list email addresses for performers from our Cabaradio show.... should we start there?

Oh, and the recording idea is excellent! I never thought of that! We don't need to find local people for that! Just poets who have recording capabilities or want to spring for going to the studio and recording a piece. We could get someone to produce it and get all the tracks into one place and add music to it, never having to be all in one place at the same time. What a great idea! (Might be a little costly, though, but if everybody pitched in, that could work!)

That's the link to the old thread. I gotta read through it. Maybe I missed something, too!

But, at any rate, this is is a NEW thread, so yeah, cool, let's talk about doing it live and recording, too!

ya know what, when I read through that thread, knowing what you meant it seems more clear, but at the time I thought we were starting a Poetry Band, all I could envision was all of us as a united Poet's group...band putting the word out there live...... recorded written....ya see I've always envisioed a group of poets going to different events and putting on events united in strength, maybe I was automatically putting this spin on the thing back in October, it would be dynamite, would it not?.....

absolutely. it's brilliant.
You'd need some cash for travelling, but you could perhaps hope to sell some chapbooks at the jamming venues.

When you say it Mark it sounds wild. Doreen, Sunday afternoon sessions would be fantastic. Wish i was there!

The only place i've found around here is willing to offer 15 minutes of open mic before a folk singing evening. (hold the pan pipes)

i'd be the only spoken word poet (in a room of folksters) - which is cool, but might turn on other poets around here.

Yes! Very cool! This is actually a similar idea to our Cabaradio shows which we think can eventually become a recurring performance with a core group of people with different additions every time we perform somewhere..... It's similar in concept only we added other stuff to the poetry and music ..... Stand-up comedy & dance... plus we do it in a talk show format

But the whole idea is to create a vehicle where we can all perform on a regular basis. Variety is good, too.

judih - I think you should go to those 15-minute open mics .... and bring a digital camcorder.... hand it to someone in the audience and ask them to push go before you start reciting your work! Could you be here in June? June 18th or 19th? We're thinking of another Cabaradio show and last year it was on the 19th. LR calls it Juneteenth. Something about Lincoln and slaves and the date the news got to Texas that the slaves were released. I'd never heard that term before.

Mark - how's the Arts Center in Baltimore coming along? Maybe the Roving Jammers (the Net Generation) can come perform there and maybe, just maybe you're available June 18th or 19th and CJ, too, and we could put together a show in DC again or Arlington or?? who knows? somewhere~! I've got Cabaradio3 on the mind! Could be a good beginning for a roving net of poetpeople and musicpeople and artspeople and all that! Whaddya think?
