So I can vote for Christine O'Donnell.

But I might be too old to be an anarchist

Still I wonder

Maybe if we elect enough truly stupid people to the senate maybe things will be better somehow.

Dear Levo,

I have decided to put my careers as poet, writer, musician, web developer and media prophet on hold for the moment so that I can take up another, more important mission. My country needs me. After much soul searching and meditation (which for political purposes I will call Prayer,) I now know what I must do. I'm joining the Tea Party. The poor dears clearly need me. I mean just look at what passes for leadership in this bunch. Not to mention any names, but when your intellectual depth gage is set according to shock-jocks and PTA moms it might be time to put an ad on craigslist saying, 'Incipient political party needs believable leadership. Applicants should be able to compose at least two English sentences consecutively that actually convey some sort of useful information or at the very least don't confound reason.' What I'm saying is that I feel sorry for them and you know what a push-over I am for underdogs. That's why I'm putting all other activities on hold to become a speech-writer for the Tea Party.

I find it to be remarkable that the Tea Party can even be called a party. I mean there are no discernible common or specific political goals, there doesn't seem to be an over-arching ideology, no platforms or position papers. The only thing which unites the members of this ungainly movement is a general seething discontent not attached to any particular issue. That and the funny costumes. Demogogues dream of a constituency such as this like a mushroom spore dreams of warm manure and a dark place. It's a blank slate, a lump of clay to be formed and spun to the will of the potter. All the Tea Party needs is a leader who knows how to channel this general anger and discontent without also believing in UFO's driven by the angel Moroni or that we have genetically engineered a mouse with a human brain through stem-cell research or that you will go to hell if you masturbate.

I know, I know, you are going to say that I'm making a political mistake, that the whole Tea Party thing started out as a trite political stunt financed by the insurance gangsters to cause trouble for Obama's healthcare reforms. This may be true but then it took on a life of its own and the static charge that was rubbed up over healthcare started gathering the loose debris of general economic discontent and soon many lost libertarians and Limbaughistas, maroons left over from the Moral Majority and of course the Fox News robots and other hillbillies who think that posing with a murdered animal qualifies one to be president, started the snowball rolling and it swept up those who were just honestly baffled by the sheer size and magnitude of government and were moved by this vague sense that things were out of control and somebody needs to turn the gas down. Whenever you see a CNN microphone thrust into the face of one of these poor souls dressed up like Betsey Ross or Uncle Sam and they are asked what the Tea Party stands for, they always say something childishly vague like, "We want smaller government.' or 'We want our country back.' or 'We want to return to the Constitution." All any of these statements amount to is, 'We are pissed and confused and we feel helpless.' So, how can I help but feel sorry for them? they really need a message, a narrative, they need Story. Otherwise the whole thing will just amount to a fit of passion, a heavy crock with no handles.

I'll be doing this work on a pro bono basis because otherwise they could never afford my services. Unbiased thinkers don't come cheap nor go hungry, and if I'm forced to live on donuts and young campaign volunteers that can only be character building. My first order of business is to get this Sunday-school teacher Beck to back off on his dress-code. He wants the Tea Party to abandon its funny costumes and corn-ball-subversive signage in favor of Ban-Lon golf-shirts and Hallmark posters, I suppose. He thinks it will help people take them more seriously, Ha! If you ask me, that would rob the movement of its most unifying and endearing factor. If you take away the costumes, all you have left is ignorance and prejudice. At any rate I've got my job cut out for me and this is just to let you know that some of our other projects may have to take a back burner while I get these people straightened out. Wish me luck.

Hey Jack... is your name Levo?

Is that another screen name of yours?

Utterly confused. ;)

(Just kidding, of course. But to those of you who are confused, Lrod likes to publish letters he's written to people on the internet. Of course, he didn't sign it "Lrod" because he has other names, it seems. And stilltrucking's (Jack) name isn't Devo but he also has other names. I hope my note here has cleared up all of the confusion. :) )

Thanks for clearing that up. I wondered too.

But mostly I was scared when I read it. I know Clay don't use emoticons but I was kind of hoping he was being

Because if he ever does put his evil genius to work for the tea party we are even more doomed.

Newt Gingrich and Karl Rove are the epitome of sincerity and good intentions compared to Clay.

Just foofin clay
I did try to imagine you in cahoots with them. It was a scary thought.

But you are such an honest pirate I know it would never happen

Clay I should have remembered that from my p-chem. Optical isomers, left and right mirrors of the same molecule. LSD for example. I think there is a right and left to it, maybe I am wrong, been almost fifty years since I did any chemistry.

IsomerOptical isomers are molecules that are mirror images of each other. ... Similarly it is only the D-form of the psychedelic drug LSD that is psychoactive.

yes, chemistry is where I learned the terms

mirror isomers are molecules with the same atoms but in reverse order as if viewed in a mirror
in both amphetamines and many psychedelics the dextro-rotatory molecule is the one that is psychoactive....the Right Stuff

Interesting article about the teaparty here I thought.

She sees some commonality in their goals. And if you follow the money trail you will find the specific goals of the people who are financing these "grass roots" movements. The billionaires behind the hate..

Here is a snip from the article
Hdding in Plain Sight: The Christian Right in the Tea Party Movement

If you liked Rovian anti-gay marriage referendums, the Terry Schiavo saga, anti-abortion litmus tests for diplomatic service in a war zone, and creationism in the Grand Canyon bookstore, you'll love this season's Tea Party candidates.

Why are we just getting the bulletin about "social conservatives" in the Tea Party movement? The media, beguiled by the period costumes and libertarian theatrics of the Tea Party demonstrations, overlooked from the very beginning the influence of veteran Christian rightwing activists within it. But read between the lines and you'll find clues that the Christian Right has been in the Tea Party trenches from the start.

So why did the Christian Right flock to the Tea Party movement, and what explains their libertarian posturing?

I appreciate the reply. I will see if I can edit the above and maybe put together a couple of sentences that
that actually convey some sort of useful information or at the very least don't confound reason.
Hurts my head to think about it all, fortunately I live a hundred yards from the main drag of the Southern Pacific and the trains pass like temple bells every half hour and ease my weary train of thoughts.

sometimes it take a train for me not to cry for my homeland
