Hi.
I wanted to let you all know that from here on out that this will be the way the Fireplace/Dumpster forum works.
Posts which blatantly disregard personal respect for each other will be moved to the Fireplace/Dumpster.
As the word Dumpster implies, one day the trash gets taken out.
Therefore, periodically, I will clean out the Fireplace/Dumpster forum by deleting all of the threads.

hehe...now how is anyone going to know about this rule?

LOL!!!
Well, knip, I think probably 1/3 - 1/2 of my 1100+ posts on this board have been about this rule of decent human behavior, so if people don't know about it by having read my posts, they should know about it anyway just by living on this planet.
It's a simple rule, really. Respect.

I have a question:
What is "respect", how does it linguistically manifest itself, and why is it desirable or necessary?

Some definitions from dictionary.com. These are the definitions that apply here.
re·spect
1-To avoid violation of or interference with: respect the speed limit.
2- Willingness to show consideration.
3- Polite expressions of consideration.
There are also connotations to the word respect which include showing "honor or esteem" but that's not necessary.
How does respect manifest itself linguistically?
I'll put it this way, it's obvious when disrespect manifests itself linguistically in the form of name-calling and derogatory verbal attacks and abuse of another person's character and presence.
Please peruse the Fireplace/Dumpster for examples of disrespect. Almost every post residing there is a post where the verbiage is disrespectful, both to the participants exchanging such banter, and to ME, because I have asked repeatedly for these types of negative attacks to stop on these boards.
Such banter is also disrespectful to the visitors of these boards who do not want to be in an environment where attacks and verbal abuse are taking place.
The guideline is simple.
Respect is a matter of acting in a socially acceptable manner without the usage of disrespectful verbiage such as the verbiage which is posted in the Fireplace/Dumpster.

Cool. No problemo, jefita! Imagine, however, if say a John Wayne Gacy or Richie Ramirez or Manson is on the lam and gets online. He is fairly courteous and respectful, yet you knew this was Ramirez. Would you still treat him with respect?

RESPECT
Aretha Franklin
- written by Otis Redding
- a #1 hit for Aretha Franklin in 1967
- lyrics as recorded by Aretha Franklin February 14, 1967 in New York City
and included on the 1985 compilation album "Atlantic Soul Classics"
(Warner Special Products CD 27601)
(oo) What you want
(oo) Baby, I got
(oo) What you need
(oo) Do you know I got it?
(oo) All I'm askin'
(oo) Is for a little respect when you come home (just a little bit)
Hey baby (just a little bit) when you get home
(just a little bit) mister (just a little bit)
I ain't gonna do you wrong while you're gone
Ain't gonna do you wrong (oo) 'cause I don't wanna (oo)
All I'm askin' (oo)
Is for a little respect when you come home (just a little bit)
Baby (just a little bit) when you get home (just a little bit)
Yeah (just a little bit)
I'm about to give you all of my money
And all I'm askin' in return, honey
Is to give me my profits
When you get home (just a, just a, just a, just a)
Yeah baby (just a, just a, just a, just a)
When you get home (just a little bit)
Yeah (just a little bit)
------ instrumental break ------
Ooo, your kisses (oo)
Sweeter than honey (oo)
And guess what? (oo)
So is my money (oo)
All I want you to do (oo) for me
Is give it to me when you get home (re, re, re ,re)
Yeah baby (re, re, re ,re)
Whip it to me (respect, just a little bit)
When you get home, now (just a little bit)
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Find out what it means to me
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Take care, TCB
Oh (sock it to me, sock it to me,
sock it to me, sock it to me)
A little respect (sock it to me, sock it to me,
sock it to me, sock it to me)
Whoa, babe (just a little bit)
A little respect (just a little bit)
I get tired (just a little bit)
Keep on tryin' (just a little bit)
You're runnin' out of foolin' (just a little bit)
And I ain't lyin' (just a little bit)
(re, re, re, re) 'spect
When you come home (re, re, re ,re)
Or you might walk in (respect, just a little bit)
And find out I'm gone (just a little bit)
I got to have (just a little bit)
A little respect (just a little bit)

Unfortunately, some of us may not feel much of an obligation to respect Ms. Aretha's musical stylings....

They lose it that do buy it with much care."
Shakespeare, Merchant of Venice

I love that Aretha song, A-One!
mousy1- I donno. Sure, marshmallows are good. I love 'em when they get burnt on the edges. Sitting around the campfire or fireplace with friends.... (they're a little too sweet for me, but I'll have 2, please).... But I really don't know how to answer your question.
It's entirely possible I've made a wrong decision about deleting stuff from that forum.
I donno. I don't know much.
I just want to write and draw and paint and dance and make music.
I wasn't cut out for this job..... I'd fire me if I knew I wouldn't take it too hard. I'm not very good at handling rejection.
Pass the marshmallows!

You're funny!
You're a flaming marshmallow Doreen.
All soft and gooey and sweet on the inside, but you can get all fiery, black and blistery, up in your face, down and dirty, when you have to, or so it appears. All of which is a good thing.
You're perfect for the job, tough but fair.
Perhaps you're taking all this too seriously. Boys will be boys. Girls will be girls. There will always be discord. I'm sure this too shall pass.
It's good to have some place to be a wanker. I may slip into "ye olde fireplace and dumpster" myself, a time or to, for to shout at the world. Vent some unhealthy shit before I go on with my day, blossoming like the flower I am.
Anyway, I think you're doing just fine. Keep on keeping on. Appropriate behavior is in the eye of the beholder. Writers and artsy fartsy folks are weird and wonderful, one doesn't want to tether them too much. Look at all the infamous feuds between so many of the really great artistic types. Perhaps our own Perezoso and Scootertrash will one day be famous and you'll be able to say "I was there! I was there when it all began!"
Or not.....shrug!
Ya, keep it in the dumpster, that way your site doesn't get soiled. No one has to go in there and if they do, well, ya get what ya get.
Hmmmm, maybe you should call it Storm Clouds. Got a classy ring to it.
Bye.

you're a sweetheart, ms. mouseyOne.... nothing mousey about you, btw.
Thanks for the support and kind words and yeah, maybe keeping it down there is ok afterall. I'm sorta moody. Plus I change my mind from time to time. I donno what will happen. I'm just trying to express my feelings....
Good to have you here! I like the burnt edges and sweet-in-the-middle image.... I've never been compared to a marshmallow before! LOL! I love it! I'm a flaming marshmallow! Who knew?

Fantastic!

You're a dear.....
