Write a Poem

Post by hester_prynne » September 14th, 2004, 3:05 am

Stella brought home her first middle school assignment.
I've decided to assign it to all of you too.
Here's the deal.

Write a poem.

here's the structure:

I am (that's the title)

I am (use two words to describe yourself.
I wonder (what do you want to know about life?)
I hear (what sound do you hear in your mind?)
I see ( what do you see with your mind's eye?)
I want (well? what do you want?)
I am (same as first line)

I pretend (what do you pretend to be or do?)
I believe (?)
I touch (literally or figuratively)
I feel (?)
I worry (that or about, over, when etc?)
I cry (?)
I am (same as first line)

I understand (what do you understand about life?)
I say (?)
I dream (about, ....that.....)
I hope (?)
I am (same as first line)

Here's Stella's

I am

I am energetic and witty
I wonder what to say
I hear pencils writing
I see blow-up pink flamingos
I want bubble gum
I am energetic and witty

I pretend to play the air guitar
I believe in me
I touch my book and binder
I feel happy
I worry about my family and friends
I cry when I am sad (duh!)
I am energetic and witty

I understand what to do
I say "holey moley"!
I dream about school
I hope to suceed
I am energetic and witty.

ok. now do yere homework.
heh
(We sure had fun with this)

I am

I am blissfully relaxed
I wonder what i did to deserve this state
I hear waterfalls splashing around me
I see sarongs flung off as turquoise splashes over all
I want to live forever
I am blissfully relaxed

I pretend that peace is around the corner
I believe that others feel it coming
I touch the magnetic core of desire
I feel the movement thickening
I worry no longer
I cry when death reminds me of you
I am blissfully relaxed

I understand that i'll never understand
I say the moment is all
I dream that we walk long astral highways
I hope to meet you there
I am blissfully relaxed

here's mine... (circa 1999)

I am in awe of all around me,
forever inquisitive of truth,
I wonder if the years will swallow
my forever, honest youth.
I hear an echo deep within me --
I see an angel flying o'er
I want to know how I can own me--
and what motivates her youth.
I am in awe of all around me,
forever inquisitive of truth.

I pretend that I am hope immortal --
I feel the angel hold me close...
I touch her as she nears the portal
I worry that I'll be verbose as
I cry out, "Please clear my vision--
help me hold on to my youth."
I am in awe of all around me,
forever inquisitive of truth.

I understand we all get older
I say, "I know we all will die."
I dream that death is truly conquered
I try to pray, I hold my cry
I hope for innocence forever,
that in old age I mirror youth.
I am in awe of all around me,
forever inquisitive of truth.

Where's yours, hest? ;)

I am

I am caffeinated, whirly.
I wonder if I'll ever untangle.
I hear the inverse sound of trees discussing movement in the forests
I see clumsy clouds colliding with decisions I make constantly
I want to untangle myself and be a blank sheet of paper
I am caffeinated, whirly.

I pretend to be artistic, a thinker.
I believe I'm full of shit though.
I touch electricity in moments
I feel nothing worthy of comment
I worry that that's because there really is nothing to feel
I cry when I regard this idea
I am caffeinated, whirly.

I understand nothing and death
I say the first thing that comes into my head
I dream that I'm a central part
I hope the questions never stop
I am caffeinated, whirly.

I am

I am smiling spirit
I wonder and wonder
I hear soft silence and sweet music
I see tomorrow in daylight hues
I want good books, friends, and you
I am smiling spirit

I pretend constantly
I believe reality is highly over rated
I touch moonbeams and starshine
I feel languidly at ease
I worry about flat tires
I cry over sentimental nonsense
I am smiling spirit

I understand too little
I say too much
I dream constantly
I hope for all things
I am smiling spirit

(I love Stella's)

Hes, Stella's answers are very telling as to her beauty and soul and the kind of mom she has had. I loved her answers. I have never played this game before so will give it a go...

I am a mystery

I am a mystery
I wonder about all that I encounter
I hear the hum of the universe
I see joy and pain
I want compassion and love
I am a mystery

I pretend that it can be fixed
I believe that fixing is not necessary
I touch to heal
I feel alive
I worry too much
I cry more freely now
I am a mystery

I understand no thing and every thing
I say it in riddles
I dream creation, that I may create
I hope for peace, inner and outer
I am a mystery

Thanks hes, I love all the replies (well, almost all...)

I am

I am busy getting nowhere.
I wonder where nowhere is
I hear the chuckle of the universe
I see her knowing tears
I want love and happiness
I am busy getting nowhere.

I pretend I am getting somewhere
I believe everyone is fooled
I touch untouch
I feel lost
I worry i'll be found
I cry willingly
I am busy getting nowhere.

I understand disconnections
I say YES loud in solitude
I dream songs to sing
I hope for acceptance, and ease
I am busy, getting nowhere.

Thank you for your wonderful responses to this.
I really dig them, and you!
