Studio8 - Uniting the Arts

So anyone who's close to me knows about my obsession with Europe, and just travelling in general. And now, thanks to statravel.com, and travel tipr from Rick Steves... I can finally take my long-term trip across the ocean!! Prior to this thread, I posted one about my friend's disdain for his homeland Scotland, due to lack of excitement and the burden on personal possesion (you can find it here:http://studioeight.tv/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=3011). He wants to come here for a stint of about 2 years, taking odd jobs to feed his face and give him shelter. I'll be in Europe for a stint of about 6 or 7 months depending on how I feel about it. And thanks to being a student, STA slipped me a sweet deal to be out of here in September, right on the shoulders of off peak season. Also, thanks to hostels.com, europeanhostels.com, aerlingus.com, ricksteves.com, letsgo.com and a whole mess of other .coms, I've found acomadation, travel gear and all the other tres chic necessities. MY mother's only dissapointment was my chocie to put school on hold in exchange for my holiday. I'll be living in Chorley, UK: http://www.chorleyonline.com/; Paris, France, it need no site, Edinburgh, Scotland, it also need no site Cork and Dublin, Ireland, also in need of no site, and hopefully Plan De La Tour, and Bordeux, South of France: http://www.plan-de-la-tour.com/. SO my seasoned travelers and gurus... advice, advice, and more advice!!! But Please, keep all suggestions requiring money to a small minimum, I'll be poor, hence the name of this thread!!!

my favourite part of europe is the netherlands...the smaller the town the better

slow pace of life, bicycling on cobbled streets, friendliness...my fave

I have heard you rave about the Netherlands before. It is my most solemn hope that I am able to pay it a visit. I'll probably stay for about 2 or three nights and dig the towns. Maybe Amdsterdam or something.

Check out Bruges in Belgium really, if you would care to see a Hieronymus Bosch painting come to life. Or perhaps it's Escher. One of the most bizarre little cities of Europa.

I have heard of bruge. The man mentioned above, rick steves did a show about it awhile back.

i'm spending the entire month of june just outside of prague, if you can get an early start i'd meet you up for a shot at the pub on a moment's notice!

In Bordeaux there's this music school, and the students do gigs every thursday night in this particular bar/place, there are like five 20-minute sets, usually good quality and a very wide range of styles (haven't been there yet, I just met someone who lives right next to it). They only recruit top-level students so it seems worth going. I'll try and find the name of the place for you, if I can put my hand on those Bordeaux people again.

As for Paris, if you're into modern art the Pompidou museum is really worth seeing (if you're really into modern art sneak away for a week and go to Barcelona lol).
There's also La Défense, it's a bunch of really impressive buildings.
And there's the drag of, well being in Paris - everything's more expensive and you can't approach people without being seen as a potential psychopath.
I also heard of a couple of good jazz places, but the names have slipped out of my brain. Depending on your musical tastes I can also advise you on bands.

Oh, and Bordeaux isn't totally South.

Thanks for the inof. I'll take it to heart. Hope you can find the name of this school so that I can go and check it out. It sounds like the right place. As for music, I listen to jazz, indie rock, hip hop, folk music, r&b, blues, some punk, some metal, classic rock, improvisational jazz, congo and caribbean, rap... ehhh... is that enough for you? LOL
