Yes. If there's nothing to talk about there's no way to talk about the subject. ;)

talking about nothing gives me this empty feeling
but sometimes talking about something does the same thing
oh wait, it's time for my daily talk with myself
I'll let you know in a little while what we came up with
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Retirement ROCKS. At least mine does. Maybe if I hadn't hated that last job so much I'd feel differently, but being laid off 6 months before turning 65 (with 6 months severance) was like early release from prison. I haven't felt this free & unfettered since the summer of 1965, when I was 15 and spending my days roaming the woods & fields near home, taking our dogs swimming, riding my bike to friends' house & building a clubhouse for ourselves out in the barn..... Every day is Saturday, now, mine to piss away or not. The fiscal discipline my dad hammered into me served me well in the aftermath of my divorce, and despite the relentless outpouring of cash into Her account, I managed to divert enough into my 401k to build up enough to live comfortably. Not extravagantly - 2nd-hand vehicles only, home-vs-restaurant cooking, no ocean cruises - but comfortably. Even now, 3 years after turning in my badge, I'll burst out smiling on a hiking trail, thinking of the poor sods I left behind getting beaten down by management to wallow in the corporate bullshit....

This is how it ought to be. You'll love it, judih, you lead an active enough life that your days will always be full.

big smile. Thanks, R!
the financial thing is a mystery since I'm a kibbutznik and all my salaries all these years have gone to the kibbutz. i'm supposed to receive some kind of guaranteed pension, and with luck, i'll be able to continue not having to deal too much.

I'm sure judih you'll have lots to do on the kibbutz upon retirement.......I for one really didn't wanna go out in ambulances, but that's how it went down...... besides my memory and heart condition (a-fib) I've roughed out a notch for myself,

Wireman .... personally, my writing has almost completely stopped. It's like some major change happened in my brain. I used to write incessantly. Couldn't stop. I took notes all day long. I wrote several poems a day for a long period of time. I compiled a huge body of work. Then one day, I had no desire to write at all. I sometimes read the works I wrote and think either, "Oh my god, that was pretty good" or "Oh my god, why in the heck was I obsessed with this? This writing is terrible."

At any rate, I miss it. It was a huge part of my life and it helped me make sense of life and I was certain I had talent and skill and now I'm not certain I had either .... but I feel like I've lost a limb via amputation.

That's where I'm at. Wondering whether I should even try to bring it back or just let it go and concentrate on other things.
