Mary Martin on Broadway in 1949 (South Pacific), and PJ Harvey in 1992 (Sheila Na Gig) are two who come to mind ...

Other than that, ? ...

Oh. OK. Are either of those two the person Jack is referring to? If so, how do you know? :)

I don't really know. Those are just the only two I remembered, connected to that line..

I thought they were two lines from two different songs. But either way, I have no idea what the discussion should be about.

Maybe he'll tell us. Not sure about the 2nd line (sounds almost like a Beatles tune). I was just thinking about the 1st line..

Yeah, the second line is from a Beatles tune, slightly modified to be talking about "her", whoever she is. Yeah, maybe he'll tell us. Hey, well at least it started a discussion in the Discussion forum (a discussion about what the discussion is about). :)

for some reason married filing single is the most disadvantaged way of filing taxes, the IRS cuts you no slack you pay more and get less. Married filing jointly the best way to file puts the most money in your refund. Mrs X filed with her husband last year and did pretty good. But he was driving her crazy would not give her a minute to herself so she sent him packing and decided to file her own return, he just was not worth the money and the agravation to file with him. Reminded me of that song mark mentioned.

Oh I see. Separate bank accounts, separate tax returns, separate bathrooms, separate vacations, separate residences. A perfect marriage. Makes sense to me. That marriage could last forever that way!

Thanks for filling us in with the inspiration!

And was the second line a reference to a Beatles song?

But seriously....The tax thing is a real trip. Why do they give married people filing jointly so many financial benefits? I’ve never understood that. There are many single mothers who are struggling financially and they’re the ones who need the breaks.

ten four beatles song
single parents can file Head of House Hold and get earned income credits, almost as good as filing married. But for some reason the people who wrote the tax laws, which were probably mostly men, do not like to see married people filing single. Even those who are single do better under the law than those filing married single. Many tax credits are not available to them.
Be thankful I don't take it all 'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman .
