Mother's day

Post by hester_prynne » May 8th, 2005, 4:01 pm

Today Stella and her friend are cooking dinner for me and her friend's mom, here at my house. We moms get to sit in the living room and party while our girls work in the kitchen. I have no idea what they are going to make. I'm not to do a thing. That's an order! heh.
I'm looking forward to it. It makes me so glad and honored to be a mom. I'm so proud of my girl.

Last night, I had a little single mom get together in honor of today. It was wonderful. We talked late into the night about motherhood, about the real plight of mothers, within the ever-weakening myths of "family". We talked about how for single moms, Mother's day can be downright depressing!
We shared stories, some long pent up, and I couldn't believe the tragic theme shared by all of us women, left to raise our kids alone, the struggles, the poverty, the betrayals, the lessons. But somehow, all worth the joys of putting someone else, (our kids) before ourselves, something the fathers of our kids for the most part, were sadly, not strong enough to do.
The strength in the room was something to experience.
We all felt it.
It was amazingly cool, calm, and reinforcing.
We're going to get together next Mother's day eve too.

So I say, happy Happy Mother's day!
(Do something special for a single mom, if you know one.)

And a hearty toast to all of us undaunted, heroic Moms, single or not!
