Why do you post on the internet superhighway?

Posted: May 9th, 2005, 4:22 pm
by Doreen Peri
What do you get out of it?

Select you primary reason for posting....

1- I think of it a stand-up mic or as self-publication. I enjoy having an audience and being on stage.

2- I think it as a writing workshop. I post my work to get feedback and critique – input from fellow writers.

3- It's part of my social life. I post because I enjoy the company of others who are posting.

4- I post for self promotion. I post to promote my writing, artwork, website or events.

5. Because I don't have a real life. ;)

6 - To me, it's for entertainment purposes.

7- All of the above.

8- None of the above. I can't tell you why. It's top secret. If I told you, I'd have to kill you.

i left off the answer, 'because i'm an internet addict' on purpose. I didn't think that answer would add anything since it's probably a given. lol! ;)

Well, I pushed 'view results' and now the button is missing for me to vote on All of the Above myself, since 2 people voted, 100% said All of the Above and so the graph bar is there for that one, but not the button to vote.

Oh well.

I'll shut up now.

This place has been slow. Just trying to strike up a conversation.

Don't ever shut up! :D

Slow....slow you say....if I had a dollar for every time I ended up talking to myself I would fly to Tahiti!

My little mousey tail is hanging out all over the place. Zokay tho I have pretend conversations in my head and they're quite a hoot!

Why o why o why do people start threads and then ignore?

Why o why o why?

I'm startin' to take it personal! 8)

8)

DON'T EVER SHUT UP!!!!!

YOU KNOW I'M FULL OF SHIT! RIGHT UP TO MY OH SO BROWN EYES!

In all seriousness and honesty, the reason I post here is because I like the people, they are quirky and fun and very intelligent.

I don't post anywhere else anymore. If I find somewhere that I like as well as here I will tho.

People are a lot more open and free speaking online. There may be alot of bullshit artists but there are alot of gems too, people I would probably never get a chance to meet in real life. I enjoy their company.

I keep to myself for the most part. There aren't that many people that I find all that interesting. I have my likes, the things that I enjoy doing and in my circle there's not much chance to engage in it.

I feel as though I can come into the studio 8 living room, settle in and listen. Listen and watch and often just smile. I'll pipe up with a bit of foolishness now and then, just because I can, but I mostly just like to sit back with the rest of you and feel at home. I like to share a few bits of me here and there if anyone's interested, but I'm quite comfy in the corner listening. Corny eh, silly eh, but that's me.

I voted number three, but if I had the option, I would have chosen number two as well. Although, it's more about getting feedback for my ideas and my style of thinking and writing.

I edited the poll questions so they weren't so long.

mousey1- I love your humor! and your serious answer! And don't worry... I'll never shut up. lol.... after all these years, how could I? It would go against my very nature. ;) I agree... there are people we meet online which we never would have had to opportunity to meet otherwise. As my friend, Karen, used to say... *tapping on box* ..."There are people in there!"

Cat - This software doesn't allow multiple selections on the polls, unfortunately. There may be a modification I can find to add that feature... When I have a moment, I'll look for it.

Izy - I *knew* you were a stand-up open mic type o' gal! But you also enjoy the social life on the net, too.... I can tell!

Hey, I really didn't need the poll for my own knowledge 'cause I know you all well enough to know why you post on the internet... I can tell by your posts!

As for me?

I chose "all of the above" - I really wish I had more of a 'real' life. I thought... get this... I truly honestly thought that when LR came to live with me, my time on the machine would be whittled down to only my time working plus a post or two occasionally on a dissussion board. But the exact opposite happened. I spend wayyyyy more time on here now. I do get a lot out of the social aspect of it, plus I love getting up on stage for the open mic and sharing my work. I enjoy working on my crafts, too, and using the internet as a tool to do that.

One of the most wonderful things I've gotten out of posting on the internet materializes in the real world, when we do our Cabaradio shows and and other shows where real people come together who originally met on the net in order to do a real stand-up open mic.

I have to tell you guys, that I feel a bit stifled on studio eight because it's a spot I created. I can't explain why. I spend more time on another board posting my writings and participating in conversations than on here. I guess I don't want you guys to get sick of my stuff or something. I don't want to post too much here. Most of my posts here (and there are a lot, I know)... but most of them aren't about posting my work.

anyway, thanks all for your input.

Why do you think it's so slow here, lately? Where have some of our regulars gone? Did they go out and get a real life, y'think? Hope so!!!!

I think it's the weather, Do.

Summertime summertime sum sum summertime.

People are out and about doing things....actually doing things! I can't imagine it! I can't fathom it! I fear it shan't be long 'fore I'm talking only to myself here and worse yet, answering back....oh ma God!....OH MA GAWD!

Shoot me now! Shoot me now I say! Or not! I'm easy breezy! It's all that liquor I consume. If only I could bring it out from behind my back!!!!!!!(I refer to another thread that you haven't probably noticed because you're off gallavanting on other people's boards when you should be here keeping us in line....showing us your wares and what nots!)

You should spend lots of time here talking to me! It's only right and proper!

If your site wanes like the moon it might be your fault! Think about that. Gawd knows I'm keeping up my end of the thread but one mouse can only do so much..... :? .....weak elbows!!!! Do mice have elbows? Well, I'm obviously rambling now so I'm off. I think I've given you enough food for thought for one morning.....hmmmmm?

you know... I remember days of old when I actually did have a real life, and not it seems the glow has dimished (it's because of my hair isn't it?) and I am left to stare at flashing screens for hours, making ridiculous jokes about myself, and trying to be satirical to prove to myself there is a point in it all. I do that with everything though... it comes with the job (of being overly-dramatic *scoffs*). "Wish could be out enjoying self's youth and rocking metapyhsical Casbas everywhere".

I been looking at this poll for a long time. I saved the link in my mousey1 deletions file. I named the link Four women talking to each other. Now that I have had my sex change operation (i will always miss my penis, it was so handy for pissing around corners) I feel that I am entitled to participate.

I write because of a family secrete. I am trying to cash in on a bunch of tragic shit that happened to a firend of mine's sister. I am going to sell the story to BrokenHearts.com for about fifty thousand. enough to put her son through college.

Yeah mousey I keep tons of stuff I have posted to you and deleted.

Loose lips break into smiles that sink ships that have been launched by a thousand faces

so there doreen
I voted all of the below.

Why o why o why do people start threads and then ignore?
I suppose cause it was a dumb thread or else it was a little too interesting like this one.

I post to hang out. I post in two places: here, and a board set up for players of/people who are interested in a game for X-Box based on HP Lovecraft stuff called "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth," where I hang out because the people have such a quirky, ridiculously ironic sense of humor.

Are you a haijin?
1. haijin link send redefine 6 thumbs up
Haijin is a direct romanization of the Japanese word which originally meant "cripple", but was later adopted by the online gaming subculture, to describe gamers who spent so long playing that they were assumed to never venture
Rick's such a haijin he got to level 70 in just two weeks
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=haijin

I come here to read.. I have posted a couple of times to the scroll and to Thistle and Marigolds. I suppose I am hooked on studio eight because it is my favorite soap opera

posting is the same as talking. the internet does not exist. it's just people. a very very smart person said that one time.
