So.....this place I'm working at......

Is a fantastic location for poetry readings and get togethers of all sorts.

It is the most quaint little cafe located in the heart of Astorias downtown. The menu is all about huge salads with everything from soy noodles ta strawberies, a very ecclectic choice of quasidillas and awsome sandwiches. (I.E. the "gobbler" this sandwich is served on grilled fochaccia bread wich is covered in a pesto cream cheese. between the bread lyes spinich, turkey, bay shrimp, provolone, tomatoe, and a small sliver of bacon) I love this job. Cooking rules. It's very fast. No time for petty thoughts or wasted minutes. I attempted working the grill today. I have really only created all the salads and prepared the quasidillas up until today. What a fuckin great time. I only lasted an hour and a half before Chris could see I had just about dug us into a nine order hole. We both agreed I did fine until the rush hit. I went back doing the salds and such, and Chris stepped up and took over like a captain at the helm. This place cooks all thier lunches and dinners on a two burner gas stove and a 2ftX3ft grill. Everything is made on premises. I go into work four hours before we open to prepare and make everything from scratch. salad dressings, soups, croutons, desserts, specials, EVERYTHING! It's awesome. I can make all my own dressings now. I can't wait to master that fucking grill. The grill is the key to money. It takes a serious fucking knowledge of the menu to be able to handle that lunch rush. I have to be able to see ahead and know what should start cooking now in order for everything to come out at the same time and be equally as hot. I love the pressure. Chris goes back to college in September, so I have a month to get this shit down. I know I'll get it. I can't believe I typed all this. I was just going to write a few lines about the interior of the place and describe how it would be perfect for a west coast Cabaradio. (no room for dancers though)
So maybe not a Cabaradio, but a Studio Eight word sharing event.
The owner is a pretty hip guy in his early forties who writes songs but admits he can't really play any instruments. Anyway.......my fingers hurt.

Yab,
They say that a short order cook is a more stressful job than an air traffic controller.
I'm glad you enjoy it.
You're a cowboy.
It would be great to do a Cabaradio in Astoria.
If I can just figure out how to get there.
Maybe you can be the point man.
Arrange for the venue and the video taping and the radio coverage etc
Maybe I'll hitchhike.

Yee (fuckin) Haw! I actually used to really feel like a cowboy when I wore my toolbelt. I could spin my hammer in so many directions at lighting quick speed and then just as fast, spin it into its holster.
ahhhh, the toolbelt. I can smell it now. Oh well. I guess its time to learn the balance spots of a spatula.
He left his leather still holding his steel, in the North country
now it grows cold
and old
his sweat, his blood
now lyes in someone elses basement
she never had his heart
but she sure got all his tools
those eyes reside a cowboy soul
he walks away with both his shadow and the sun
contrasting every step in front of him

man o man... sounds like a dream come true!
we were going to do a cabaradio in september but then there was the work stuff and a wedding and a funeral and airline tickets we were being asked for so it was like... it's not happening now...
but yeah... wouldn't that be awesome!!! a cabaradio at the spot you work at? I love the idea!
when?
lol
let's pick a time... maybe we'll drive cross-country... nothing better than a long distance road trip....
how about in the spring? (you probably don't think that far in advance... right? next spring is a lifetime away... .sighhhhh.... )
can't go by plane
can't go by train
but we can go by auto
even in the rain
hope the gas prices
go down by then...
but when? when?
hest singin' gerswhin
LR playin flute
i'll be the dancer
to boot
hahahaha
*wink*
Yabyum screamin'
the whole world's meaning...
salad dressings, short order lines...
we'd be jammin' an after dinner menu
mantras spoken hot under pressure...
poets blind
full of conjecture...
my fingers are getting tired.
but my heart's on fire
west coast entirety studio eight
can't wait!
you set the bait.
I took it.
what's the plan
man?

a spatula is good as a six-gun
sling it on your hip like a hash-brown hammer
and the orders swing on the wheel
slips of appetite
people's lives depend on this
eggs over easy and caesar salad

"plan"? I had to go get the dictionary for that one. Well, I guess the first thing to do would be to further establish a good relationship with the owner, Paul. I've already mentioned, in passing, how the back room would be perfect for readings. I have to get out and see what kind of poetic "scene" lurks within this little town after nightfall. There is no Poet based zine, anywhere I have looked. (I.E. Eastcoast Rocker, the Aquarian, the Hour,) Maybe I'll just have to go out and create the scene. Bring these fuckers out from hiding. Hmmmmm. My mind is buzzing. Maybe I need to buy a computer.
Stilltrucking.....I laughed outloud when I read your reply. I feel your meaning. I am almost impossible to offend in the internet world.

mmmmm.... the gobbler sandwich looks good!. Are they interested in chop suei, mussakas or cow-meat empanadas?. I can export my own version of them via ship trough the Pacific!
Good that you are having a great time,
