Why do we write????????
Why do we write????????
I was just sitting round all day wire sculpting, thinking, and wondering why it is we all write. Just about every one between here and antarctica knows I do it in order to create performance pieces and "JAM!".....just wondering why you do it?

hey Mark! Good question!
Here's something I wrote a few years ago in answer to the same question. I guess it still applies (except for the fact that I write much less often than i used to, unfortunately!)
i write because i have to.
my goal is to keep myself sane.
the language is music and mystery
colliding inside my brain.
if i don't get the thoughts out on paper,
they run rampant and scare me, so
i write because i have to
but 'twould be nice to make some dough.
so if anyone wants to publish me
email me directly, i'll bite.
i'm very unlikely to argue with that
or put up a bit of a fight.
i've got free verse and rhyme, stories, haikus,
humor and angst and a bit of the blues
piled up in boxes, filed in folders
ready for publishers or word beholders
i write because i have to. just to let you know.
but i wouldn't mind being read by the masses
or going on the oprah show.

to figure shit out? also i feel this very gut level to communicate, sometimes writting helps break down boundries people may not beable to get over talking in person? i think i sorrt out my confusion on papper, i sort out what i think and why i think it better on papper then in my own head...even though the words themselves are coming from my head, i understand them on a different level when i write them down. good for memory too,.
Blah!

A good death.
I write because it helps me to figure out shit too. It helps me on this journey. Reminds me of SETI. Hello, is there anybody out there?
I write because I breathe, because I am a thing called alive.
