Is the internet over?

Post by singlemalt » March 14th, 2006, 2:28 pm

Most everything on television sucks. Most movies are lame and the movie industry is on the rocks. The music industry is a joke.

I wonder if the internet is next. I think it's got a year or two left, and then. . . game over.

So that leaves us with college basketball. And that's not so bad.

Here ends my daily dose of nihilism.

When has most of everything not sucked?

As they say, 90% of everything is crap.

And as far as music, my own experience and observation shows that 90% of everything really is crap, and it merely *seems* otherwise to someone when they're young and the music is new.

the internet basically already sucks. what once was so compelling has become pretty predictable and stagnant.

but you know what's not over? what still continues to intrigue and involve me, day in and day out, without fail?

real life. it's so back in. it's the new black.

I agree with you, oGloriousOne! totally.

------

i do think the internet has a future we haven't even imagined yet.... i think it will become more like interactive tv & broadcast performances... combining video and audio capabilities. I think the internet will go through a variety of changes which are on the horizon but for now, for those of us who have spent a great deal of time using the internet, the thrill has worn off because it's not changing quickly enough to keep it exciting. Discussion boards like this one are a dime a dozen. It's all the same. Except for the people, of course. People differ from place to place on the net and THAT will always be exciting because people ARE real life! But people aren't meant to live in machine. The internet can never ever substitute for real life experiences. It can be a pretty effective tool, though, for communicating.

"As they say, 90% of everything is crap"

well, my porcentaje is 75%.

I use to use the term real-real. The duplication must mean something, but I don´t know.

The internet is still compelling. In all these 8 years, the internet has never let me down. It never fails to inform and surprise. It could be that I just have a knack for finding all the right places, but they're still there.

Well... on second thought, I have to agree with you, too, Mars. It can still be compelling. Definitely not meant to replace real life, of course, but there's a lotta cool stuff on the net. For instance, I found a great spot called Studio Eight dot TV a couple of years ago and I've been going there almost every day since I found it. ;)

I never really get bored online because it's usually timed or costs money, so I'm never really on for long periods. I like googling things. It's my latest craze. I love some of the shit you can find if you think of the most obscure, unthinkable words or images. Yesterday I spent an entire hour reviewing the laws of satanism.

Real life? What's that?

Oh, is that like where people call you to go places and you make up excuses like "I'm being chased by wolves!" and hang up the phone?

The internet is still in its infancy. It will be interesting to see where we take it. As the Akasha is the repository of all, so the internet is fast becoming the repository of all things man created/creates. If we can just keep Bush's hands off it I think the internet has the potential to evolve into something really cool. Hey, look, we're on it now!

I love the internet. Tis hardly dead! Tis alive and vibrant.

I have met the most wonderful people that I would never ever have never actually never met. in the flesh, you know what I mean.

The net is the head without the body, and a lovely head it can be.

There is negative, there will always be the negatives, but I am grateful for the positives.
I used to walk with my head in the clouds but I kept getting struck by lightning!
Now my head twitches and I drool alot. Anonymouse
