Oh good grief!!! "celebrating the devil"???? Where do they get this stuff?

Please read this paragraph from the World Book website:

"Halloween developed from an ancient pagan festival celebrated by Celtic people over 2,000 years ago in the area that is now the United Kingdom, Ireland, and northwestern France. The festival was called Samhain (pronounced SOW ehn), which means "summer's end." The festival marked the beginning of the dark winter season and was celebrated around November 1. In the 800's, the Christian church established a new holiday, All Saints' Day, on this date. All Saints' Day was also called All Hallows'. Hallow means saint, or one who is holy. The evening before All Hallows' was known as All Hallows' Eve, or as it came to be abbreviated, All Hallow e'en. This name was eventually shortened to Halloween."

I don't see anything about devil worship or celebrating the devil. I see a lot about the Christian Church taking the holiday over and sanctifying it away from its Pagan (not "devil-worship") origins.

Our modern Halloween takes a lot from the "Day of the Dead", Mardi Gras, and other similar carnivals. It's an opportunity for the kids to dress up and pretend to be somebody else. Since Halloween traditionally celebrates a dramatic season change from summer(the light months) to winter(the dark months) the elaborate masquerade with costumes and "scary" stuff all makes sense ...to everybody except these extreme Fundamentalist Christians, that is ...
