I would like to be standing on the shoreline of Walden pond. Henry David Thoreau's abode where he became one within himself. I stand before the replica of his cabin. Debating whether or not I should enter this scared place of solitude.

I'm predictable. Whenever I think of a place to escape it's always the island of Corfu. I don't think of anything in particular, really, just walking on the streets and in the town, wandering from place to place and looking at the people and the buildings, the trees and the sea beyond everything else. I think of sitting at a cafe table under the trees drinking an Amstel, or getting lost down ancient cobblestoned lanes between old stuccoed shops that shadow the street. I think about ordering spanakopita and getting one as big as my face, on a paper plate.

I wish I had stayed there longer than a day. I liked it there, and I still don't know why.

Sometimes I think of Villefranche. We spent just as much time in Villefranche, and it was nicer, but I never think of wanting to live there, or wanting to run away to Villefranche. Or Mallorca or Rome or any of the other places we visited. Just Corfu. It's really unexplainable.

Don't forget the bakalava!!!!
