Who do you think God wants to be president?
Approximately 60 million Americans identify themselves as evangelicals. This is George Bush's so-called base. I guess he figures that anybody that will believe that a Hebrew prophet walked out of the grave 20 centuries ago and by virtue of that our sins are washed away will easily go for fables like Weapons of Mass Destruction and secret worldwide conspiracies with A-rab names like Al Charada.
When I hear the word "evangelical' I think of preachers with voices like thunder and swaying masses of the faithful with their eyes rolled back up into their heads and tears streaming down their cheeks. I would use the word 'evangelical' as a euphemism for 'fanatic cultist' the same way I would use the term 'hooker' when I really mean 'whore.' The Bushies are running an add that puts George W. on the same screen with Jesus H. Christ himself as if they were running mates.
Kerry's base is more agnostic. That is, they are slightly more inclined to confuse themselves with the facts. But Kerry has not been innocent of invoking his religion as a campaign ploy either.
I suppose its no surprise that in this time of Holy Wars there should be a blurring of the lines regarding the Constitutional separation of Church and State.
If I was God, I would vote for Nader.
