Please see the announcements forum if you're interested in uploading your photo or another image to appear by your posts.

Thanks!

(To all those who are participating in the Studio Eight main site who have already sent me photos of you for the site, just let me know if you want me to crop your photos to the right size and upload them for you on the boards here and I'd be happy to do that for you.)

Looks like you finally got it! Sorry, it was complicated. Good to see your lovely face, panta!

How I do it is crop a photo to a square shape in Photoshop, then use "image size" and "canvas size" to change it to 80 x 80 pixels, then save as a .jpg at a "small file" setting.

I don't have the newest version of Photoshop which has optimization features to reduce the size of the file even further without screwing up the image.

I got mine down to 16K and it uploaded fine, even though it says there's a 6K restriction. (I couldn't get it any smaller than that... I was surprised it worked since it didn't meet the file size criteria!)

It's great to see so many faces so quickly! I just activated the darn feature a few hours ago! And we can already *see* so many of us!

:)

that 16K thing was exactly what my trouble was about!

couldn't get it any smaller either, no matter what i tried (strange), and, when i tried to upload it nevertheless, i was told (of course!) that the file size needed to be less than 6K (guess you were lucky that you were accepted BIG, dor...)...

finally, i reduced the size more and more (the pixels, that is... down to 70 X 70, or something), and i saved it as .gif.... and alas! it was 5,9k!

but there must be a different, easier method... one day, i might figure it out. my photoshop is still pretty new to me...

panta, if you want to send me a larger version of the file you put up, i'll see if I can resize it so it's as large as 80x80 pixels and upload it for you.

Also, I think it would be cool if we all created several of them so we can rotate them on occasion.

I'll resize the photos you sent for the S8 site and send them to you an email in a little while (in case you want to use them later.)

Mars - done! nice to see you! :)

panta- i got your email and I will resize and send you the pics... Just one note... I really CAN'T get them any smaller than 16K but I have uploaded mine, Wireman's, hester's, and Mars' at 16K and they went up fine. Soo.... all I can figure is one of two things... The system is accepting the larger sizes, OR the size is more compressed with the document is closed than when it is open. I suspect the second one. Anyway, I'll send you the images at 16K and you can try uploading one of them when you want to rotate your image and see what happens. If it doesn't work, let me know and maybe if I do it it will work. Hmm... there's a 3rd option... maybe "admin" people can upload larger sizes? LOL! I donno... I'm a technological dummy. :D

I just made an adjustment.

I increased the acceptable file size for avatars.

It's now 16K.

Who knew I could do that? ha!

Who is that old man?

Post by PoeticEyeGuy » November 14th, 2004, 10:26 pm

Damn, who is that old man who keeps appearing in my picture? Oh well I guess I'll have to learn to live with him. Beats the alternative.
