anemone remembers sinai
sunsplashed existence
on a mountain finer than wine

one day to rejoin
past to present
the gift of knowing

we take off our shoes
see our naked feet crawling
along wires stretched across sands
slowly! our toes snailcreeping
drawing lines into the desert
our heels following
cablecrawling
sandsifting

us, the nomadic wonderers
hands open

humming

i hold sand between my toes
for those years
far from now
when sand becomes political
and humming becomes oblique

whistlin' a tune, call it
how high the moon,
got me wired and in a swoon
the company I keep,
ya know it cannot be beat................

I've decided to camp in the desert
where the flowers are small but bright
and the night rings like a muffled bell
I'm backed against a wall of dreams
Dylan chewing on my ear
flop-sweats are little bastards of perspiration
Born in the Arab sun

beethoven's hair tells tales
lead poisoning
story on page 5
l-rod misses the ashtray
joint rolls over
wireman picks up where we left off
someone sent a clown
in yesterday's pizza box

flat but bozo-d
save it for later
clowns over-easy (any port in a storm)

british clowns with porridge for tea
cucumber sandwiches
and idiot winds blow us away

four oclock tea time
9 oclock eastern standard publisher's time
just one phone call
we'll do lunch, we'll do it
we'll.....other line....

where's the rule book?
can ya edit on a jam?
can ya edit in a slam?
no, foul, i say...arrest l-rod and judih
stop those editing misdemeanors
spelling, who cares?
extra letters, farflung grammar?

nothing's worse than tell-tale edits

(wylde is cool - they make poetry down south and wylde exports only the best)

Last night I slept in the pizza box
me and the complimentary hot pepper
I know you all partied into the night
but something about the smell
of remembered pepperoni
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

mozzorella makes a sticky kiss
that pizza box slept better than a Beautyrest
still warm from a crust
deliver me like a box of dreams

avoid the cigarette butt
swig some warm beer
yah, that was good sleepin
give me cardboard anynight

fond memories of campin out
mid-winter mid-town
plastic bags for shoes

ah, the days of then
moanful and crumpled
half-filled box of rain

the beer is cold this morning
not really cold, but brisk
I'll risk a cigarette on the day
dawn was a careless promise
like our youth
dime bags on our feet
half-empty with rain
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

constant interruption
cuts off my words and flow

patients calling
treatments to organize
questions to answer
painters to pay

and in between
i sneak back to the show
to roll in pizza boxes
in desert sand and play

a juke box filled with dylan
half filled, half empty
depends on the size of your dime

funny how a bottomless cup of coffee
needs no refill
a long talk over endless solutions
plastic spoons navigate continents

a dartboard in our future
flinging quotes bullseye
laughter applauds

we all want applause
goes the tune
yeah, uh huh

as coffee spills over atlantis
another paradise lost
