The Unannounced Summer Solstice Poetry Jam

Post by Doreen Peri » June 20th, 2006, 2:58 pm

Nobody knew this would happen.
But poetry started streaming
from their lips.

nobody expected it to happen
yet sudden daylight poured out beyond sense
on and on came solstice
longer than a flying midday dream
drier than the most olive born martini

a solstice fling
to welcome summer

It's all a poem.

Finches and robins,
a hot summer breeze.
The pavement burns
my soul. Leaves play
shadow games with my
desire.

Everyone expects the solstice.
And many will awaken to hear
an unexpected poem since
poems are dreams which happen
when we are wide awake enough
to hear them.

I am thirsty for verse
on the longest day of the year.

alas, even the longest day
must come to its extended end
and thus has mine

so goodnight to day
till sunlight once more exaggerates
its merry way

may moonrays wash
you with blessings.
may stars illuminate
your inner journey.
may you awaken
to a day long enough
for your every dream
to be realized.

goodnight!

spontaneous combustion
poetic eruption
its summer in Oregon
let's have some fun
mental sparks flying
and I keep trying
to write a lyrical rhyme
trapped within my mind
but no use
poetic abuse
to even try,
so I wait for the lightening strike
You know I like
to get fried
southern side
up
or down
it comes around
laying down
more words
to be heard
or not
as I rot
in poetic hell.

Cruising Solstice

Post by lenny » June 20th, 2006, 5:41 pm

Helios' big day calls forth in joy.
Two wheels know the way.
Five a.m., meditation set day, now
outside to play!

No work today, but curves await,
fields and forests, hills and dales.
Mountain streams celebrate singular day star
in scintillating points of dancing light.

Radiant orb rides with me,
plays hide and seek through tall tree tops,
speckled path lies in temperance
'til open fields shriek their heat.

Seventeen hours keep seven at bay,
dark stays away, bows to day.
Thunderstorm greets the afternoon
while gardens laugh and bikers eat.

White steam rises from black tarmac.
"I will not be outdone!" Blares Helios,
once again making debut, taunting,
vaporizing vanquished rain drops.

Shadows now lean east, still
Luna's rival persists, unwilling
to relinquish its day of glory, knowing
tormorrow begins his lessening.

But brilliant gold transmutes
to glorious orange, painted pink,
purplish hue, dark blue; exhausted,
solar king now lets distant cousins shine.

December's step brother solstice,
half blood relative, now waits his time
to mock June's lengthy life and declare:
"Light gives life, but dark gives rest!"

Happy Solstice Everyone! Enjoy the energy.

sky gazing

Post by faithmairee » June 20th, 2006, 6:05 pm

gazing at the sky
in the blazin'
summer sun
i am in awe
of its vastness
wishin' i was
sittin' on
a cloud
sippin' on
a soda
and watchin'
all the birds

It's a summer party!
Did you bring your swimsuits?
No? That's OK.
Swim anyway.
The water's cool
and so are we!
Wild and free and there
are endless possibilities!

movin' into summer
wind into cloud
drifting into deep emotion
see the sun rise
blossoming into a
rhythmic peak
sending out, sending out, sending out
energy
reflective in the summer skies

I need to tell a tale
of fantasy and languid
leaning into tall grass,
fruited trees, languid leaves,
brilliant sunshine warming
soporifically
melting dreams
the tale unwinds in brightly
colored ribbons
dances gypsy comedies
of lazy, dappled romance
bathing in silken perfume
sweet and scandalous
deigning to smile until
the laughter bubbles out
bursting into raucous music
to fill the summer eves
glistening in firefly light

tell a rollicking tale,
we demand of the piper
we have paid all the long
seasons of darkness
it is time to reap an early harvest
of dreaming into dawn
