Deep, Capn. I suspect that most Americans don't really know what war is about, since the USA has not really been attacked. Sure nam and korea combat vets do to some extent, though they were the invading army. WWII survivors of D-day and so forth do. Old ukranians and russians or germans and french widows know what modern war--Weltkreig-- is about, as do probably many asians and africans. Most walmart patriots never make that basic ethical step of imagining themselves in the "enemies" situation --imagine being in Basra two years ago in mud huts when the combined US forces hit yr city.

So you believe that Vietnam and Korea vets only know about war to some extent because the US was "the invading army."

Did you ever talk with a Vietnam vet? A Korea vet? I can guarantee you that they would tell you that you completely missed the boat with that one.

"We lost Davey in the Korean War, still don't know what for."

Viet Nam war, goes back to France and FDR making a deal to return Indo China as a French colony, Ho Chi Min at the Paris treaty in 1919, pleaded his case for Viet Nam with no luck, so they drew the map. Then in world war two Viet Minh on our side fighting the Japanese, rescuing downded american flyers, we are so grateful we support an independent Viet Nam, but FDR dying just like WIlson makes a deal with france because they threaten not to joing his UN unless they get Indo China back. We even allowed the French to arm the Jap POW's so they can help fight the communists, then Dien Bien Phu and you know the rest, 16,000 trops in Viet Nam when JFK murdered, then Gulf of Tonkin what the hell was that about, shots in the night no idea who is shooting at who, Texan in the white house, sound familiar.

tell me what Viet Nam was all about, I have heard people say we could have won, won what?

Vietnam was the longest war we ever fought, about thirty years if you count WW2

SM you are right
"Go ask a Marine" that is a slogan from my childhood in the forties. now we will have a nice intelectual conversation about war.

Come on somebody say something smart about war.

This has drawn much criticism and shock from the more liberal minded media and military critics, but according to more than one "Republican strategist" interviewed on cable news, the general's expression of pleasure at the idea of killing enemies of the U.S. is perfectly morally and politically sound, even if a bit inappropriate for public broadcasting. What excellent leadership for the young troops who are already raised in a video arcade-like culture!

Great!!
