A few days ago, in the presence of some good friends, and in the midst of watching "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow", I made the assertion, based on never having visited Japan but having consumed many of their cultural artifacts as a distant spectator ( and having read many translated Japanese novels, etc.), that Japan was probably the ultimate "science-fiction" country and culture on planet earth.
Here is a website, collated by a self-confessed "American Jerk", (found on the William Gibson homepage) which, I think, partially substantiates my claim.
