Geographic Illiteracy Among 18-24 yr old Americans
Sedentarytrucking
are you north of the Brazos?
Do you know your Texas geography?
And someone once again in congress and or the senate wants to make English the "official" language. Caramba!
The polls are mischievous for sure.
I don't know if the progressives will gain an advantage soon, but I do know that some Democrats sound a lot like Republicans, only they are saying that they can do it better. In the USA, I don't know if that is a way to collect new voters. Maybe they are hoping that the current malcontent with Bushco will cause the Reagan Democrats to come home. In any case, I don't believe that young American voters are chomping at the bit to register and vote in any substantial way.
On the other hand, I have withdrawn somewhat, not hitting th streets anymore. I saw my Vets for Peace buddies at a local military recruiting station, on my way with step-grandson to Chuckie-Cheeses'. I am on the outs with them cause I said I was not comfortable leafleting the kids outside the high schools. Mercy.
Yin and Yang.
and Jesus
, critics are saying that the Da Vinci Code is based upon fiction, that Jesus was a mortal!
But I would caution, don't throw out th babe wid da bath watah, man. Open th Pandora'zzz box of disillusionment in order to find, para encontrar, la vida loca, th crazy life, yet there are deep roots of knowledge, deeper than doubt, and barren shores of Dead Seas and sweet waters by green pastures, Elysian Fields of immutable scent, berries and wildflowers all around.

Way south of the river.Cross the Brazos at Waco
Ride hard and I'll make it by dawn
Cross the Brazos at Waco
I'm safe when I reach San Antone
I may be wrong but I think there was a deleted post by WD between you and judih.

Be He mortal, myth or metaphor, Jesus is just ok with me.
"Jesus broke the wild horse in my heart" Flying Burrito brothers.
Hebrew historical religion, and Greek historical science, where the streams intersect. And the Dead Sea is Dying
I take my theology from trashy country and western music and rock and roll. I am fellaheen. I am a nothing, I am a man of means by no means.
"And the old keep getting older and the young must do the same"
It is the time of the fellaheen. Cecil knows where the border is, he lives on two borders. And in that desert are the bodies of hundreds, maybe thousands of murdered women. Been going on for twenty years. No body cares.
I have had a belly full of the holy land, but you know what an idealistic old fucking fool I am. Every place we stand is holy land. This planet is holy land.
The wacko preachers on tv are having a good time with the book and the movie. They are making lots of dough, smiling all the way to the temple/bank
Is this generation Z or A plus,

"lost and found in the border town"
"And now I'm lost, I'm so darn lost, not even God can find me.
Mariah, Mariah,
They call the wind Mariah."
I feel like A tumbling tumble weed in an ill wind that blows no good
I suppose it is about generations Doreen. I think the debate is wether this is a generation of vipers. Stupid, illiterate ignorant narcisistic spoiled brats. Or are they the greatest generation.
I watched this show called Water Planet, the Chesapeak bay is dying, I think about fifty percent is dead zones. A twelve year old girl, so earnest she is out to save the bay. A twelve year old boy raises a million dollars to get clean water to the fourth world.
A little child shall lead us..................

Buddhism's emphasis on the recognition of suffering attracted Kerouac, leading him to delve into minority cultures, dubbed "the fellaheen," and embrace their existence outside false social conformity.
Good News: U.S. Legislation Condemns Murders of Women in Chihuahua, Mexico
The United States House and Senate have passed Concurrent Resolutions on Juarez and Chihuahua -- so Congress is now on record condemning the ongoing abductions and murders of women and girls in Juarez and Chihuahua, Mexico. The resolution also presses the US Administration to work through the Mexican authorities to protect women and girls and to prosecute the perpetrators of violence against women! Work on the femicides in Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua has been a priority in AIUSA's Stop Violence Against Women Campaign. Congratulations to all who have taken action and worked hard to make this happen. Read more. »

I dig the bit about th fellaheen from kerouak, undoubtedtly before the nom du guerre of th Talltban.
I was a whiz at Texas geography, but that was in 1959. Had no idea the Brazos was so far north, how about the Guadelupe River? I am the bossman today in th jewel mines.

memorizing enormous maps is like doing long math without a calculator. intriguing, but stupid.
from google maps i can find anywhere in the world and even spot a dollar bill in a paris gutter.
i'd rather ditch the map classes and start talking about poetry and sex and how to tell a wolf in sheep's clothing. middle aged women dont know where their clitoris is. thats worse than little johnny mistaking sri lanka for istanbul.
most american adults are culturally illiterate, most even braindead. now thats an issue we can all agree on. lets let the kids free to learn and grow and fuck and smoke and send the adults back to school where we're safe from them destroying our planet.

Does that look familiar? I love maps.
"Get Your Kicks on Route 66,"
Sixty Six gets all the the ink, but US thirty runs three thousand miles from Atlantic City NJ to Astoria Oregon. The Great Lincoln Highway
BUT I pray I will get to take old 30 one more time.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Highway_30U.S. Route 30 is an east-west main route of the system of United States Numbered Highways. The western end of the highway is at Astoria, Oregon; the eastern end is in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Despite long stretches of parallel and concurrent Interstate Highways, it has managed to avoid the decommissioning that has happened to other long haul routes such as U.S. Route 66 and U.S. Route 80.
Much of the New York-San Francisco Lincoln Highway became part of U.S. 30; it is still known by that name in many areas
I live in Guadalupe county. Beautiful river, it runs near me. I used to be a whz at Texas geography too. One week I ran three thousand miles in Texas. I started in Sherman Tesas and wound up in Sherman Texas, never left the state, never backtracked or ran the same road twice. Just made a big circle, Sherman, Houston, El Paso, Amarillo, and back to Sherman.
Sorry Cecil, I ramble your thread again. I hope you are ok. Missed you yesterday. I hope you are ok I hope you can shine it on. Speaking of maps do you know where Jesus was born? There was a Texan taking a Bible Quiz. They asked him where Jesus was born. He said Lufkin. The moderator told him he was wrong. Jesus was born in Palestine. The Texan said well I knew He was born in east Texas somewhere.
C. W. Mccall lyrics
"C. W. Mccall Old 30 lyrics"
(bill fries, chip davis)
She was mud and sand and concrete
Mixed with water made a’ tears
From the rivers runnin’ down the great divide
She was three thousand miles
Of rockin’, rollin’ highway
A million mem’ries long and two lanes wide
Far across the wide missouri
To the ol’ wyomin’ line
From the jersey shore to san francisco bay
She was known to all the truckers
As the mighty lincoln highway
But to me, she’s still old 30 all the way
Now the interstate goes screamin’ through the backyard of her life
But it just don’t send those shivers down my spine
So before I take that exit
To the highway in the sky
I’m gonna take old 30 one more time
She was radiators boilin’
In the burnin’ summer sun
And a blizzard blowin’ wild across the plains
She was tumbleweeds a-rollin’
In the gentle winds of fall
And the lights of old grand island in the rain
She was mud and sand and concrete
Mixed with water made a’ tears
From the rivers runnin’ down the great divide
She was three thousand miles
Of rockin’, rollin’ highway
A million mem’ries long and two lanes wide
Now the interstate goes screamin’ through the backyard of her life
But it just don’t send those shivers down my spine
So before I take that exit
To the highway in the sky
I’m gonna take old 30 one more time
One more time
i take rt 30 to work every day. once we took it west thru the pennsylvania mountains and the climbs were intense and dizzying. it rides to philly too and one of these days we'll have to take it to AC to check out the wannabe gangsters huddled around cheap tables sharing space with the bluehair gerries from the buses. i had no idea rt 30 had such american heritage. american heritage gets lost around here.
and knowing i'm so eager to fight cant make letting me in any easier.
