In a rare reprimand of Israel, the State Department Friday vehemently rejected Israel's claim that the Rome conference had given the green light to continue its punishing bombardment of Lebanon. "Any such statement is outrageous," State Department spokesman Adam Ereli told reporters traveling with Rice.
"The United States is sparing no effort to bring a durable and lasting end to this conflict," said Ereli.
The State Department was responding to Israeli Justice Minister Haim Ramon's comment that the international conference held in Rome Wednesday effectively gave permission for Israel to pursue Hezbollah weapons and guerrillas in Lebanon.
In a small-world irony, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, who is also in Malaysia, said Friday that Iran is willing to assist in resolving the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, the Kyodo news service reported. "Iran is in the position to cooperate to solve the problem," he told reporters. U.S. officials blame Iran for aiding and arming Hezbollah, including providing the missiles now being fired at Israel.

I am so stupid about peace, I am willing to settle for a temporary peace. You never know how durable it maybe. Of course I hope my fearless leader is right and I am wrong.
Bush and Blair said their plan, which calls for the disarming of Hezbollah in accordance with a 2004 U.N. Security Council resolution, will ensure a durable peace, rather than a temporary cease-fire.
So if we are going to start counting broken promises and UN resolutions ignored and violated by both sides (Palestine/Israel) The implementation of resolution 194 would mean the end of the Jewish state as such, Jews would be a minority. Would that satisfy Hexbollah? Too late for peace too many slaughtered on both sides?

Condi makes the issue Lebanon and Israel, she can't call a spade a spade.

She dodges the issue, this is about Israel and palestinian refugees, there will be no peace , no durable peace, until the issues in Palestine are resolved, not Lebanon. Or is this some global strategy of her brilliant mind that I can not fathom? Like why she could get a PDB about airplanes flying into buildings in august of 2001 and dissmiss it as "historical"
