NYC Man Arrested For Broadcasting Lebanese TV Station
Federal agents have arrested a New York man for broadcasting the Lebanese TV station al-Manar inside the United States Javed Iqbal was arrested on Wednesday. The Pakistani-born man is being held on $250,000 bail and faces at least five years in prison. In March the State Department designated the TV station to be a terrorist entity because of its links to Hezbollah. Iqbal runs a small television company in Brooklyn that installs satellite receivers across New York. He was arrested after an FBI informant attempted to have Al-Manar installed on his satellite system.

Judge: Gov’t Can Tap Phone Of Journalists
A federal judge has ruled that the government can legally tap the phones of anyone handling "material that is not generally available to the public." Privacy experts says the ruling by Judge T.S. Ellis opens the door for the U.S. government to monitor journalists. Steven Aftergood who edits the journal Secrecy News said, "If the press could only report on 'information generally available to the public,' there would be no need for a press.” The ruling came in the trial of the two former AIPAC lobbyists who are accused of receiving classified intelligence from a Pentagon official.

i have to say something here.

any child could read the paper on any day and realize what this nation is coming to.

i was one of the fucking morons, or at least the shortsighted ones, altho back then i liked to think of it as optimism, who supported invading iraq and who lauged at the people who liked to quote "first they came for the ... and then they came for me" stuff.

you cant donate money to peace groups without becoming a target of federal interest. either right now, or soon. whenever they want.

you cant say what you want to say to anyone unless you are in private and very sure of to whom you are speaking. if you dont watch your mouth at the grocery store or the baseball game or the classroom, you will be dealt with.

there are millions of poor people dying on the street, some more quickly than others, and these millions of people live right outside the capital building and nobody is doing anything about it.

the collective YOU (or, yous, as we more froggily say in buffalo) arent doing anything about it.

i'm not either.

i go to work in the morning, come home at night. a quarter of the money i earned that day simply by having a job to feed my kids goes to the war machine.

the internet has seemed to induce a false sense of community. we have no community in america. nobody is DOING ANYTHING about it. we think we have these friends on the internet who believe what we believe, but we dont.

well expressed.

now i must suppose there are exceptions to the general rule that anyone who supported the Iraq invasion is a complete idiot. but, in general, anyone with influence and power who supported the iraq invasion should not be listened too about anything, they should be realized for what they are -- complicit in a war crime.

i would go further and say that the Afgan invasion was also a debacle from its inception, and that anyone who can still maintain now that it was a just war -- and this trope is very common amongst critics of de Iraq war -- is a fool. The Taliban were offering to negotiate a way for them to even assist in getting Bin Laden, and Bush assministration said we wont negotiate -- result? five years and no results, except for throwing the country into chaos and installing a puppet regime in the interests of controlling the natural gas of the region.

unless one is quite literally child, it should have been obvious ever since the Korean War that the U.S. military and covert operations services and foreign policy in general has been a tremendous force for evil.

We have seen the enemy -- and he is Bush. to support Bush is to declare war, or to commit treason, against the American republic.

Fox news is a terrorist organization. The Republican party is a terrorist organization. The CIA is a terrorist organization. Bin Laden is a former CIA operative. The Air Force is a terrorist organization.

Sadam committed genocide with full U.S. support during the 80s, which means Reagan (in spirit) and Rumsfeld (in person) should be on trial with Sadam.

i wanted to argue with this, but i can't. it's true. and the soviet juggernaut too. death to all empires. kingdom builders stand down, please..... but you'll get extremely few god-flag-and-apple-pie types to see it. apologists and willing pawns they'll continue to be, as a whole. it just baffles me, sometimes. depressing, really.

the political process will not result in justice or a better nation.

all electronic voting machines are subject to quick and easy hacking. not all hackers are freedom-loving doves.

all voting sites are controlled by grassroots corruption. millions of citizens are denied their right to vote.

all politicians supported by the major parties are subject to corruption and collusion.

all governments so closely tied with capitalistic monopolistic global economy corporations are inherently opposed to the individual, whether he or she be you or an iranian child.

all news coming to anyone thru media conglomerates are skewed towards the corporations, who are tied to government.

We have here an arab channel in tv cable, it's one of the last ones and it's in arab and without subtitulados. I only stopped there while doing zapping in case that there was music in it.
Was Bruce S. who sang something like ....... channels and nothing to see??

Be have been here and done this many times, America is not becoming a police state. We have been a police state for a long time. The only difference is we have become better at it. The technology has advance a long way from 1917, Where is red Emma when we need her?
