Full Moon Rant
i don't really have a solution. (there be none.) my job is just to complain. as i said in the post two posts above this one, the US is the problem. so, my solution is for the US to stop trying to impose solutions. if the US wants to contribute to international peace, it should simply abdicate all foreign policy and be isolationist. bring the troops home -- all of them, not just those in Iraq. close down a couple hundred bases.
you say, mtmynd, that its not just about the US. Spain, GB, India and Russia and France(??) have been affected too. true, when Spain was our ally in aggression, it got hit; likewise Great Britain, which continues. India has its own problem in Kashmir, and it is only because of its "nucular" dealings with Bush that it can be even classified as part of the same war. Russia's Chechnya problem is largely independent of the whole Al Queda thing, but certainly Bush's declarations of a polarized with-us-or-aginst-us mentality of global war makes alliences amongst different groups inevitable. when all is said and done, the US is the principal player in all of it. the US needs to retire from geopolitics and simply maintain a territorial defensive militia. basically, whenever we act with force to solve problems internationally, we will create more problems in the long term. replace the Cold War with a War aginst Terror. what's next: aliens invading from outer space?

I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.
here's more for my conspiracy theory:
the plot was to use a gatorade-like beverage (something unique to the UK, apparently), along with either cell phones or ipods to detonate.
now, all liquids are banned from carry-on luggage.
i have a comment and then a question.
comment: gatorade and ipods and cell phones, pretty fucking hip, no? way to scare people. say the plot was to use these typical and widely used items, widely used by the youngsters out there, the ones not typically voting republican.
comment 2: now, they ban all liquids, typical things like toothpaste, shampoo and lotion. this is exactly like the immediately post-9/11 banning of things like nail clippers and razor blades, typical stuff found in nearly everyone's carry-on bags. the nail clippers etc ban was lifted after a couple of years, if memory serves, and had of course nothing to do with the very next attempt by the shoe bomber to cause airborne havoc.
those two comments add up to this: use globally-recognized material and ban globally-used material. everyone is affected by "the war."
question: does it really matter if the exploding liquid is in the person's seat or in baggage? cant a detonator be used with some distance and, anyway, isnt the baggage stowed right below the passengers anyway? what difference does it make to have it stowed? in fact, wouldnt it make more sense to have all that stuff roll thru carry-on security, where guards can assess the "suspect" and personally inspect everything?

I just got thru reading an editorial on http://buzzflash.com/
Tuesday: Liebermen loses to a No More War democrat.
Wednesday: Tony Snow claims the 'cut & run' policy of certain Dems are aiding the enemy (paraphrasing).
Thursday: The British stop a plot that they knew about for (evidently) several weeks, even informing Dubya of the progress.
The bullshit continues on... at the expense of the American people.
e_dog ... I don't know if there is an answer to the whole situation either. but I do agree that Bush and Co. and Congress has to be voted out before we will see any change for the better. Until that time arrives... you and I and people like us, Common Dreams, Buzzflash and our media will continue reporting on the obvious and the deceptions... most of which are beyond our current control.
We can only hope that nuclear warfare will never happen.

Cecil: I know the feeling of saying with a high or less porcentaje of you: "well, you want to kill each other, you want to neverending insult each other, damn... you want to make ME call the doctors and your parents and leave school one hour later.....damn, so well, do it, NOW!!!!!!!!!". But you know, it's only a flash and until now I never act according to it.

You lost my vote with germany. I have not googled it but I bet my life Germany does not have any Nuclear Weapons/
Maybe if there were more cock suckers things would not be so desperate
So many little opinions so many dots to connect. Do you really know what time it is? Does anyone?
I don't have a clue
I expect that it will come crashing down tomorrow
And the day after tomorrow the survivors will pick up the pieces and go on.
Cock sucking terrorist
Maybe if there were more cock suckers things would not be so desperate
I awoke at three thirty am to the BBC world over nite news. Must have been about 8:30 am London time. I wondered how long it would take for the story to break here.
Nothing travells faster than the speed of light, with the exception of bad news which obeys its own special laws. DNA

you're correct, truck... Germany does not have any nuclear weapons. My error. (But I'd bet they could get on from somebody if they really wanted one)

Funny as that may sound, I think there's more truth in that than many would give credit to. I've felt for a long time that the Islam religion is extremely sexually repressive for its followers and hence the burkas and lack of women's rights, etc. My first Stream here delved into that using an article I had read.
Speaking of that - have you ever heard anything about how our young troops in Iraq are getting their sexual needs fulfilled? Historically wars have always had women following the men knowing there was a need for doing so, but in Iraq..? I've asked a few people this question and nobody (including a good friend who has spoken with a young man who was over there) knows. I find that very peculiar.
Side note: yesterday I had to admit to myself that I've been overindulging on the banquet of news. I've got to give myself a 'news fast'... stop taking in so much of the world situation realizing there isn't a damn thing I can do about it... except bitch. I'm listening to music this morning and hope to keep away from the media for at least a few days.

Just like men in prison... they are either satisfying themselves or having sex with each other.Speaking of that - have you ever heard anything about how our young troops in Iraq are getting their sexual needs fulfilled? Except unlike in prison, there are women who live in Iraq. Some, I'm sure, are finding willing female partners and others are unfortunately, raping unwilling female partners.
There are also some, probably, who are abstaining entirely..... which probably adds to how screwed up their heads are.
All this is conjecture but I think my guesses are pretty darn good.

they are taking painkillers and drinking lots of alcohol, our soldier boys overseas. read it in a news story, must be true. funny how we can fuck up an entire country for the citizens, destroy their roads, make their lives unlivable, but we won't dare bring in the whores to keep our troops happy, because of the fucked up way that those citizens view chicks. apparently we dont give the same shit for how those citizens feel about freedom or safety.
islamic chicks are wild. i bet theres a lot of opium dens out there with muslim waitresses serving drinks and hookas in burkas with holes cut out from the crotch, cash money with pictures of saddam sticking out of their cuffs.

At one point in my life I believed that all the evil in the world was in Germany. These days I love Germany. I think the Germans may appriciate what is happening in the USA better than any other country. Of coursed they could have one. But they don't want them. They probably could have had one during World War 2. It was only Hitler's insanity that saved the world from that. imoBut I'd bet they could get on from somebody if they really wanted one)
As far as sex, I don't know cecil. I imagine there are plenty female american soldiers to harass. There has been a couple of women who have come forward with horror stories. And I am sure there must be prostitutes, where there are armies there are always prostitutes.
I listen and watch a lot of knews. I don't think about it much. I only go there to be amazed.
When there are red alerts, there are no blue states it seems. The news media thrives in these days. Corporate profits surge, the ratings rise.
I fall asleep listening to the BBC overnight a lot. I trust the BBC more than our corporate american media. But I wake up in the morning with a head full of cricket scores.
I think the closer we get to November the more terrorist plots there will be. Good growing weather for a corrupt administration. And that is the bottom line for me. No matter what tragic consequences of their stupidity they are just common crooks at heart. Iraq is all about the bottom line.
Not sure if you remember the scandal back in the early fifties about "Who lost China." I see sort of the same thing now. We will leave Iraq one day, and leave a hell of a mess. It is all about the blame game now. Defeatest democrats. The posturing begins.

Chalmers Johnson and his book, BLOWBACK ( a CIA term)
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20011015/johnson
as well as the film,
WHY WE FIGHT
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/documentar ... ight.shtml
and the sometimes overlooked book
GHOST WARS
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/159420 ... e&n=283155
provide starting points, nodes of background information and interpretation that enrich an understanding of events like Israel's Lebanese incursion and the threats surrounding Heathrow airport and its aircraft.
The "urge to Nuke" or even throw a rock at a troublesome, ideology-powered group is completely human.
Our "Project for the New American Century"
http://www.newamericancentury.org/
ideology versus bin Laden-ism ought to be understood pretty thoroughly, however, before we start making too many radical pronouncements about "solutions."
I strongly advise anyone trying to understand the current tangle of world politics and ideologies to read the complete PNAC website. Then listen ( in the film, WHY WE FIGHT)) to Col. Karen Kwiatkowski's account of the neoconservative ideologic policy-makers arriving at the Pentagon.
Perhaps Benjamin Barber's book:
JIHAD VS. MCWORLD
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/034538 ... e&n=283155
might also be helpful.
Citizenship ( particularly global citizenship) always requires compromise. That's a central thesis of Barber's book, which, of the three I list here, impresses me least, though many of its central observations are sound.

As if Wilsonianism wasn't bad enough. They will come. Without a new, comprehensive strategy based on our most urgent national security needs -- as opposed to a muddled version of Wilsonianism -- this crisis is almost certain to worsen and spread.
Good article
thanks for posting
e-dog says I go off on a tangent when I talk about the USS Liberty. To me it sums up Isreal's attitude towards America. Which is pretty cold blooded if you ask me. This is a personal problem for me. The Jews that is.
This ought to go over big. We don't attach no strings to our military aid. Bush said Syria could stop this shit. Syria could say that the US could stop it too.
Israel Asks U.S. to Ship Rockets With Wide Blast
By DAVID S. CLOUD
Published: August 11, 2006
WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 — Israel has asked the Bush administration to speed delivery of short-range antipersonnel rockets armed with cluster munitions, which it could use to strike Hezbollah missile sites in Lebanon, two American officials said Thursday.
The request for M-26 artillery rockets, which are fired in barrages and carry hundreds of grenade-like bomblets that scatter and explode over a broad area, is likely to be approved shortly, along with other arms, a senior official said.
But some State Department officials have sought to delay the approval because of concerns over the likelihood of civilian casualties, and the diplomatic repercussions. The rockets, while they would be very effective against hidden missile launchers, officials say, are fired by the dozen and could be expected to cause civilian casualties if used against targets in populated areas.

I don't deny Israel the right of self defense. Maybe Einstein was wrong. Maybe you can keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect different results. What is the sense of crying over spilt milk? When they cut off aid to the Palestinian Authority just because they did not like the results of a freely held legitamate election
RIGHT there was when they screwed up big time. Even though Hamas has that in its charter, maybe it was a time for actions to speak louder than ink on paper. Taking a chance that it would be better to have an enemy government to deal with not an asymetrical enemy.
Why did they do that? what do you think they were thinking?
sorry about the pop quiz
I see no solution to the Palestinian refugees situation.
But what do I do I know Norman? I thanks for making me think about something other than my own little melo drama for a while.
