I'm not sure why people are skeptical about him. Other than the fact that politicians are known to be liars and they're worried about whether he is just all talk and no action...

More importantly, I'm very baffled by the people who hate him.

I truly love what he says and find him to be so very inspiring, as you said Cecil, AND I've been having great hopes that he can unify this divided country among all the other noble issues he stands for.

But why do some people hate him? I don't get it at all. Maybe if he becomes president it will be the opposite and the country will be even more divided.

I was on the phone talking to a friend last night. The subject came up and I said I just loved this man, Barack Obama, and I was so happy that someone intelligent, articulate, and SANE is finally running for president.

We had been chatting for a half an hour and my comment put a dead stop to the conversation. My friend stopped talking. Silence. I said, "What's up? Did I say something you didn't like?" She answered, "Well I really don't want to talk about it. I don't like him. Matter of fact, I hate him." I said, "OMG, why? Tell me why you hate him?" And she answered, "I don't want to talk about it."

It was very creepy.

Anybody have any idea why some people have such an attitude about him?

Dor' : "But why do some people hate him?"

Why does 27% of America like George Bush?

No matter who you are or what you do, you can expect a certain percentage to hate you, no matter what. The country will always be divided to some degree or another. It's unfortunate but also a fact.

btw... about your friend... have you spoken yet?

Oh we didn't stop talking to each other. She just didn't want to talk about Obama, leaving that particular topic with "I don't want to talk about it. I hate him." Too strange.

I feel that some people are just way too influenced by whoever they hang out with. She obviously hasn't listened to Obama because I know her. If she had listened to him speak and thought for herself, this would not be her reaction to him. She's listening to the opinions of others to form her opinion. And since there's no rational reason for anyone not to like him, there's nothing really to talk about. She doesn't know enough about him to talk about him.

That's just my guess anyway.

I have a friend who likes to warn me..."You wait, the muslims are going to take over the world...."
My Mother, has often expressed reservations about the "black boy, what's he REALLY up to"
Saddest of all, due to my present circumstances, (hopefully soon to end on the one hand, although it has been swell in most ways), I cannot mention his name without tirades of what a "bad girl" I am, "always won over by the questionable types...look at your life now, etc etc etc, you're too trusting Theda!!!!"
So I sit quiet and listen to all of the conditioned fears said but not said, saying nothing, but seeing what I never really believed about alot of people....I mean, it's okay to act open-minded and positive as long as really, down deep, you aren't...?????
I feel like i'm living in a twisted victorian age.

Barak Obama is a smiley face symbol placed on the death machine which is American military-capitalism. He wants to boost the Afgan War.

doreen, cecil.... i just want to make it very clear that i really hope obama will be the next american president. that he indeed is bringing some fresh wind and inspiration into the hard shells of current politics. that there is no better option than him. that i would vote for him myself if i was a citizen of the united states.

all i am saying here is that i really hope that his energy and visions are not just means of his hustings strategy but are honest aspirations at making this world a better place.

i am not saying they are not. i am just hoping they are.

hoping that he is as open, true and righteous as he is presenting himself. hoping that he is strong enough to stand by his words and visions. hoping that he is honest and upright enough to not disappoint the hopes he has raised.hoping he really is the man he is wanting to show to us now.

i am not saying he is not. i am just hoping he is!

some things we simply cannot know.
but we can always hope!

i am a romantic democrat myself, you know....

you verbalized exactly how i feel too, panta!

thank you!

i sure hope so too!

that's all we can do at this point is hope and believe it could be true and cast our vote and hope the election isn't rigged again also (i donno why i so strongly believe it was the last time... maybe because look who we have had for the past 8 years! ... to the detriment of this country and to the entire world!)

god i hope everything you said about obama!

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07 ... index.html

"(Obama)...failed to recognize the need to visit wounded combat troops, instead choosing to continue on with a schedule that included meeting with international leaders and fawning Germans." -- Tucker Bounds, McCain's campaign spokesman

The old centuries-old complacencies and ignorances seem to have run head on into the accelerating ball of confusion known as human civilization, 2008 AD. Capitalism will gradually sweep the world, right? The West pulled itself up by its often racist bootstraps, beat back the evildoers, worked out the kinks in its system, and bestowed it with dollar signs fixed in the eye upon the world. No more would banks fail and stock markets crash. No more would elections be a sham! We have fail-safe protections in place for those things now!

Why the dislike/distrust for Obama? Possibly some combo of the following:

There's increasing distrust for all political/financial institutions in general.
The simmering Right Wing Muslim conspiracy smear thing.
Racism and/or ignorance.
Perhaps his articulate speech makes him seem like some smooth-talking sort of Antichrist figure after 8 years of Bush's assassination of the language (for our evangelical friends in particular).
Did I mention people hardly trust anything anymore?
(Hell they're probably all Bushites at this point).
And possibly that racism and ignorance thing?

wHY DISTRUST oBAMA?

THAT'S THE WRONG QUESTION. wHY TRUST HIM? THAT'S THE QUESTION.

anybody who trusts politicians simply 'cause they talk nice is an idiot. Irepeat: this is no exaggeration, if you do not ASSUME that every politician is a liar and corrupt then you are naive. Are there exceptions -- perhaps. But what proof is there Obama's an exception?

Here's why you should Not rely on him:
CAUSE HE'S IN FAVOR OF EXPANDING WAR IN AFGANISTAN.

NOT MERELY CONTINYUING, BUT ESCALATING IT. That's no conspiracy theory, he says it every time he talks about the war on terrorz. Out of Iraq and into Afganistan more.

So i repeat: if you are for Obama then you are for War.
(Actually, ihavent said that before, but i say it now.)

IF you are for Obama, you are supporting more war in Afganistan.
Plain and simple.

The Democrats are a fraud of liberal polytiks.

Obama will make everyone smile as capitalism grows deeper and militarism expands. At least with Bush we knew the devil was at work in governtmwnt . . . .
I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.
