An off-duty sheriff's deputy used a police-style AR-15 rifle to kill six people at an early morning party in a small Wisconsin town, officials said Monday.

Twenty-year-old Tyler Peterson had gone to the party early Sunday to make amends with his ex-girlfriend, a friend of Peterson's told The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Peterson lost control after people called him a "worthless pig," Mike Kegley told the paper.

Peterson left and got a police-style AR-15 rifle from his truck, forced his way back into the apartment and fired about 30 rounds at about 2:45 a.m. (3:45 a.m. ET). Six people were killed; one person survived and is hospitalized, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said at a Monday news conference.

A 14-year-old student has shot himself dead after going on a shooting spree at his school in the US city of Cleveland, Ohio, the city's mayor has said.
Mayor Frank Jackson said four people were wounded when the teenager entered the SuccessTech Academy and walked down a corridor on the fourth floor firing.

Two teenage boys and two adults were shot, and another girl injured her knee while fleeing, Mr Jackson said.

Local media reported the attacker had been unhappy at having been suspended.

I can see myself in the middle of the hump so far as my so called IQ goes but I can see myself among the one percenters too, a lot more one percenters than ever before in recorded history. Maybe the proportion of the total poplulation has not changed, but one per cent of a six billion is a hell of a lot bigger number than one percent of five million (to pick an arbitrary number for the population in Roman times for example.

so we going to have more homicidal maniacs than ever before. How much of this is nature and what is nurture?

There will be a million reasons for the shootings. Plenty of psychologists and psychiatrists and social workers educators will study the incident

They will “type” the shooter, profile him and they will be double vigilant for any signs of insanity in any other kids. But will anyone figure out how to stop the pattern. Some people can't deal with TV
I remember vaguely a psych experiment I volunteered for at UofMD psych department

watch violent videos on a monitor while my Galvanic skin response was recorded. Seems there was a decrease in sensitivity over time.

Not saying that TV is the only problem, but I think it matters.
